Do I set the meter back or what?

In my book the most important thing is, like all mistakes, that you learn from it. I think that it is up to you whether you reset the meter after all, the meter is actually for you, not for us. :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 2/6/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 8 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 104 Amount Saved: 20 Life Gained: Days: 1 Hrs: 13 Mins: 48 Seconds: 1

Greenette, you have been having such a hard time, I feel almost a kinship to you. I admire you hanging in there. Go out to dinner with your husband, have a good time. I'm not going anywhere until I feel comfortable smoke free. I have always said if it's worth eating, it's worth having a glass of wine, and a glass of wine means a ciggy. So, no temptation.

Although it's no excuse, today was just awful. For one thing, I was all alone, dogs barking, biting, one had a BM, and a loose doozy in the dryer. One of my customers seeing that I was absolutely distraught, at the furthest edge of the furthest edge gave me a cig. I had a slip, whether this is worth setting the meter back, I dunno. What's protocol? If it's any comfort to me, or anyone contemplating a slip, it was terrible. It made my mouth taste awful, it wasn't that big a deal as far as settling me down (although it did help). It wasn't WORTH a slip and I don't think I'll do it again.

Give yourself a break. You had a slip, not a failure. Learn from it and move on. That's my opinion, the choice is yours. Please don't do it again. ArwensMom , No on is perfect. I haven't caved yet, but i came soooooooo close believe me. What stops me is going to the store to get a pack. Most of my friends don't smoke. I haven't been with anyone thats does. But I will tell you something, if I could get 1 smoke, only one, I have to be honest i would, in a minute. I just can't help it. Call me lucky, cause i would have done it. It's ok you had a smoke, just pick up where you left off & go on.Your a fighter, keep going. As for the meter, it doesn't matter, you had one only one. You didn't get a pack, so keep it as it is. You know you had a smoke, but going as long as you did, give yourself a pat. It's only day 13th today for me. Today is valentines day as you know. My husband took me out for dinner, i felt so miserable, & why, cause no smokes. When will this end? The crying is getting better, but today was not so good. I did cry alot. So you had a smoke you didn't care for it, so keep going. ok? Stay strong.....Greenette My Milage: My Quit Date: 2/2/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 12 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 154 Amount Saved: $48 Life Gained: Days: 1 Hrs: 11 Mins: 46 Seconds: 46

ArwensMom , Your doing good, not to worry. You are on the right track, as far as going out for dinner, yes i have a couple of glasses of wine. I can't give up everything. Plus I will have to do it sometime. We always went out for dinner on a Saturday night, although tonight is Tuesday, but valentines. The way I see it, I don't want to make my family suffer for my stupidity. It's not there fault for the smoking, i do enjoy the dinners. One day i will have to deal with it anyways. My husnband helps me, so thats ok. i do get over it or now. keep strong. ArwensMom... Chin up...best foot forward. You can do this. Don't give up on yourself. N.O.P.E. is how we all quit one day at a time. Not One Puff Ever. And each day we do it again. Rusty's right......we have lots of shoulders here to cry on or to lean on. You never have to resort to a cigarette again. Just come here and rant and rave for awhile and everything will seem better. If it was awful for you, if you're not continuing to smoke, then see it as a mistake, assume responsibility for it, and get back on the wagon. But also think about it for a while: if an alcoholic is having a bad time, should we offer them a drink? How about a heroin addict who's trying to detox? Why would anyone in the world offer someone a cigarette because they're having a bad time? A shoulder to cry on makes more sense. And you'll get that here.
