8 days a week

Hello, I just passed my 8 days of being smoke free. I feel so figity and nervous. It seems that the hardest part; is breaking the 'habit.' I have cravings, yes - but I battle more w/ "what I should be doing, now that I'm not smoking." My work hasn't been very nice lately - I used to regularly take 2-15 minute breaks to smoke, now they assume I don't need a break. I tell (and not ask) that I'm going on break; I try to walk around the hotel, avoiding the break-room, or go visit a friend in the sales office, just anything to break the habit of sitting down for a smoke & reading the paper. When I quit once before (I lasted 10 months) I would tell myself "well if you still want a cigarette in a hour, you can have one," which actually worked becuz in an hour - I would have forgotten about it. But now - I'm living hour-by-hour, I just have to stick w/ the NONE approach; not one, not ever. It's SUCH a demon, isn't it? My Milage: My Quit Date: 5/14/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 8 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 126 Amount Saved: $22 Life Gained: Days: 0 Hrs: 19 Mins: 6 Seconds: 40

WTG on 8 days! Your doing great! I have the same problem. When I am at home being bored that is when it is so hard for me. Not really the withdrawl but the actual act of smoking is what is missing! NOPE! Hang in there, keep on keepin quit! Your doing a great job! The habit part is a tough one. But be careful not to let your mind wonder..... You have to make new habits in old places. Each time you confront those triggers, makes it that much easier the next time. Whatever you do, don't give in. It is a law that you get 2 breaks and a lunch if you are working 8 hours or longer a day. Walking is a great option. Continue on that. CONGRATULATIONS ON 8 DAYS!!! Keep it up!! SD, This will get better in time. I remember that one person found that eating an orange was the perfect solution because you have something to do with your hands, it takes a bit of time and you are getting some needed vitamins. Maybe a crossword puzzle if you still have the paper around? You are doing great. 8 days smoke-free! AWESOME! Just think of why you slipped during your last quit? Write it down and prepare some coping techniques to help you cope with slipping. We are all here to help you quit and stay quit! Have a great day and reward yourself :) Melanie __________________________ The SSC Support Team
