I Quit.

Wow, I am just so amazed by the great support pouring out of this forum. What a blessing to know there are people out there willing to share their stories, emotions, and support. I quit yesterday. I am feeling empowered by reading this forum, and I know I will be on this site a lot to express how I feel about breaking from this addiction! Right now I am scared. I am nervous (this is probably a withdrawl sign) in this weird abstract way. I feel like I won't be able to make it through the tough times in my life if I don't have something (like smoking) to fall back on. I don't know why I relied on smoking for emotional strength, but I did. And now that it's gone... I'm really scared that somehow my strength will be gone too. I'm scared I'm not going to make it, scared that I won't be able to quit, scared that the road ahead is too hard. I hope quitting will make me stronger, and that this fear will go away. I hate this fearfulness that has creeped into my heart, but I know getting through it is essential if I really want to quit this addiction. Thanks for being such a wonderful group - I look forward to sharing experiences in the future. Welcome Lil(Free104) I wish you good luck and congratulate you for making it this far. The first seven days are so hard that anyone who gets through them should get a purple heart, a million dollars, or at least a lifetime of happiness-lol. I will have quit two weeks as of tomorrow. Let me tell you that you are in for a rough ride. The bright side, and trust me, there is a truly beautiful bright side, is that when you get past the first seven to ten days you will be so happy and proud you cant even imagine! ;p You will need a ton of support if you are like most of us who have already made it through the beginning. I didnt have any true support at home. My friends and this wonderful website made all the difference. You'll be shocked that there are strangers out there that are truly rooting for you and will be the best shoulders for you to cry on, afterall they know what it's like! :eg: Good luck with your goal of becoming a non-smoker. You can do it if I did! I didnt even want to quit because I loved smoking so much. I only quit because I had promised my daughter I would. For years, I told her I would quit when I turned 40. Then all of a sudden, I was a week away from my promised date and I was panicking. I was fortunate, heck, I was truly lucky that I stumbled on SSC. Again, good luck. We will be here 24 hours a day when you need us :) Denisey My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/14/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 13 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 274 Amount Saved: $65 Life Gained: Days: 1 Hrs: 5 Mins: 47 Seconds: 10

You've made a very wise decision to quit and one you won't regret. Be kind to yourself for the next little while, this is not easy but it is so worth it. Pamper yourself and treat yourself to some great rewards. Read and post here all you can, the support here is fantastic!!! Hi free. Welcome and congratulations on your decision. Yes, quitting is very scary. I remember the agony of hell week. I remember the junkie talk of heck week. Then I remember the blahs, wondering if I would ever feel okay again. The fear is very normal. Part of it is withdrawal...and part of it is that our feelings cycle out of control for awhile. Withdrawal is truly a loss of sanity. My advice is to not worry about anything you are feeling...for maybe the next six months! Your body is ridding itself of years of toxins and nothing will feel very normal. Just keep your eyes on the goal, but your nose to the ground....keeping in mind ONLY the next step of not taking another puff. All the other stuff, the feelings, the tears, the rage, the depression, the fear...will sort itself out in good time. And once you have tasted the freedom, you will know how very worth it it all was!
