Hubby has slipped

Hi I'm Dottie - I am at day 17. I had written earlier that both my husband and I quit together. I was glad to have the support of my husband. He is a truck driver and out on the road all week - the first week passed, he found it pretty difficult, but thought he could do it, the 2nd week he wasn't as sure and this third week when he came home for the weekend he was pretty sad and grumpy. I found it difficult but it seemed to get better at times - still I pressed on. He left for work at 3am this morning and I just talked to him (6pm) and he confessed he bought a package of cigs. I am disappointed but I also know how hard it must be for him while he is driving. He said he is just going to keep the cigs in the truck and not bring them home and hopes I don't start again. I kinda had a rough day but I am holding in there - I have gotten this far and don't want to give iin. I told my husband to try to keep cutting down-perhaps just one with his coffee - after lunch etc. If he brings them home I am done for (maybe). He told me he is disappointed in himself and so proud of me. Will keep you posted. You people are sooo great. Thank you for all your responses. I now feel that IF if were to give in to cigs. I will not only disappoint myself (most important) but a lot of others as well. Plus, I would have to go all through the 17 days again. This really does help. I just came in from a bike ride and I swear I have more energy. Either way, I am winning - in $$, health wise and I don't have to fib to my doctor anymore. I'm gonna keep it up!!! Hang in there, Dottie. Just like you said, you can't give in now as you've already made it 17 days. Just keep remembering all the reasons why you wanted to quit and how proud you've been these past couple weeks. You can do it! Hi Dottie, Well, unfortunately, I cannot offer much advice to you right now, as I am in the same boat. I am the one who posted Betrayed. All I can say, is please read the responses I got. People who responded really do care. Awesome advice. I need to read, and re-read them to get it into my thick skull........... Please, keep strong. I'm up against the fight too. Seeing my hubby smoking, well, thoughts begin to enter.......... Right now, I just stay away. I don't want to watch. Your hubby keeping the pack away from home is great. He sounds very proud of you, and very supportive. As well, he should be!! You are doing wonderful in your quit. Never give up!! Please promise that if you think of smoking, you will come here first and post. Wait for responses. Listen to their words. Stay strong!! Hi Dottie - This happened to me as well just last week. I posted in the Forum under "I'm so FRUSTRATED". I got so much support and encouragement from the folks here. I really never thought about giving up my quit but wanted my husband to stick to his quit so badly. He just can't right now. He feels sad that he is not able to quit and proud of me as well for sticking to this but it was still so maddening! Please PROTECT YOUR QUIT with all your strength. It doesn't do anyone any good for you to give up. Your health and energy will be so much better - you will live longer. Keep on riding that bike and when you feel a craving coming on - just go hop on the bike and ride and ride until the craving stops. Then not only will you get excercise but you have excercised your right and strength not to smoke. I am proud of you. Your husband will quit when his desire to quit outweighs his desire to smoke. CRAVE THE QUIT! Dottie. Take your quit one step at a time and get that thought of failure out of your mind right now!
If he brings them home I am done for (maybe).
You have made a choice not to smoke. You stick by your choice and do not smoke. N.O.P.E. is how everyone on this board has quit. Not One Puff Ever! We do it one day at a time and when that seems like too much we do it 5 minutes at a time. Whatever it takes - just don't smoke. It is hard when someone elses gives in to the addiction again. Our own addictive minds begin to work on us and we start thinking "oh why bother". I'm gonna tell you why bother. Smoking controls your thoughts, your actions, what you do, when you do it and why you do it. When we smoke we are slaves to the cigarettes. When we quit smoking it is a long hard journey but the freedom we find from the life sucking addiction is amazing. I have tried to quit several times and never thought I would make it but I am here to tell you the freedom is AWESOME! You can be a part of that non-smoker world that you want to be a part of. Focus on your quit. Let your husband focus on his and deal with his own quit. You can be a shinning example to him. Watching you succeed at beating this addiction will encourage him to want the freedom you find. Keep your chin up. Use these boards to get you through the tough times. There are so many people here that will help you. All you have to do is ask. Congratulations on your 17 days. That is AWESOME! Dottie, There is another thread called Betrayed...in another section about this very topic. Naturally there are some great responses... Hold the fort! You can do this and just remember how hard you fought for those 17 Days - you wouldn't want to have to do THAT again ;) Be Blessed Sandra My Milage: My Quit Date: 8/5/2004 Smoke-Free Days: 641 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 12,835 Amount Saved: $2884.5 Life Gained: Days: 47 Hrs: 12 Mins: 14 Seconds: 30
