Does anyone crave unusual foods?

17 years ago 0 140 logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo 0
After 33 days, I'm still in the chocolate phase. How I wish it were salads instead! Like you RD, I quit before - about 3-1/2 years ago, and lasted 2-1/2 years. I was a moderate exerciser at the time (even when I smoked), and for some miraculous reason, didn't gain any weight ... that time. I was a little overweight to begin with, so 6 months after I quit smoking I joined a weight-loss support group and spent 7 long months to lose 25 pounds. This time is a different story. Because I stopped running soon after I relapsed last year, I did gain - about 15 pounds - most of that even before I quit. I have started running again, and I know it will take some time, but I'm hoping to work my way back to the shape I was "before", meaning before I made one of the biggest mistakes of my life by starting to smoke again. So, back to the subject. Other than chocolate, about the only other thing I've been having that I don't normally want is beer, unfortunately. I've probably never drank a whole beer at one time in my life (I am 44), but lately it's been tasting really, really good. Hence the weight gain and the need to run. I'll check back with you in a couple of weeks to see if I've moved on to other food groups - preferably healthier and less fattening ones. Take care, sushik My Milage: My Quit Date: 5/31/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 33 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 848 Amount Saved: $297 Life Gained: Days: 3 Hrs: 7 Mins: 13 Seconds: 4

Sushik, Until you're phase passes, try sticking to dark chocolate with a high concentration of cocoa instead of milk chocolate. It has less calories and benefits your health! Danielle _______________________________ The SSC Support Team

JuJu! Maybe she found you irresitibly appealing and feared she would jump into bed with you too fast!!! :) Those noodles sound very yummy! But just FYI, Ramen Noodles are fried before they are packed so they are not light in calories. But they are good! I have not been craving any unusual foods, necessarily, but I do find that I am making healthier choices in what I eat because I have more respect for what I allow to enter my body. I think being healthier spills into everything that you do and even what you think about yourself. :) Mira My Milage: My Quit Date: 5/15/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 21 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 430 Amount Saved: $73.5 Life Gained: Days: 1 Hrs: 15 Mins: 48 Seconds: 5

LOL @ the bunch of you. Last night, i boiled a pack of ramen noodles...drained them, added a tablespoon of real butter, a dash of soy sauce and sprinkled hot crushed red pepper on it. MMMM was sooo good. I am aware of my desire for more fruits...fresh pineapple sprinkled with fresh crushed black pepper is a biggy! :) You have to admit...sure is good eating all of this strange food. Our bodies are thanking us for it. Lots of strange things happening in my quit. I ran into an old retired school teacher at the hair salon yesterday. She was a good teacher and everyone loved her. As we were both sitting in our chairs with foilies sticking out of our hair, she asked me what was new and exciting in my life....i said nothing and she said no...really...what is exciting. I said nothing but how about you and me (her husband died last year) go to Germany and watch the world cup? Lets do something adventureous! She laughed and said...now you know basketball is my sport (she coached girls basketball). I said...come on....lets do it! who care? it will be fun!! She declined :( Oh well. Don't know why i shared that. Smokehouse Almonds and RED HOTS!!!!! OMG, talk about addiction replacement. Good thing I have Mr. Treadmill to talk me into a 20-minute date every other night! :8o: CobenFan My Milage: My Quit Date: 3/25/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 72 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 1,238 Amount Saved: $252 Life Gained: Days: 6 Hrs: 17 Mins: 48 Seconds: 19

Most definitely! Thai food, Thai curries in particular, rice noodles, peppers of all kinds, mushrooms of all kinds and "stinky cheeses", strong coffees and teas, chocolate; I eat more vegetables than ever. Asparagus is heaven on earth. Not big on red meat, but if I do, greasy is major turn off. I've gained 10 pounds, so don't be too impressed here! LOTS of nuts/peanuts in the beginning. Ice cream big time then. Now I like yogurt better. Now I believe I can start to lose a bit of weight. But really- who cares? Look how many smokes I haven't smoked! :eg: :8|: My Milage: My Quit Date: 2/18/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 107 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 4,312 Amount Saved: $963 Life Gained: Days: 17 Hrs: 17 Mins: 5 Seconds: 46

Good thread Phillip. Not that I have any answers for you, but for me, and my family, the word "diet" meant down hill. If I said that word, it sent my mind into a free-for-all fight. We now consentrate on getting healthy. Meaning, the food guide pyramid. It may be a little childish, but it really helps to track the amount of different foods we eat. And this way, we are not depriving ourself of anything. Simply put- we are focusing on eating healthy. Being healthy. We have actually followed the Diabetic food guide pyramid. We haven't mastered adopting this lifestyle for everyday use yet. I seem to give up to quickly. It is hard work, just like quitting smoking. But worth it just as well. Good Evening Phillip, Well my first week all I wanted was sweets and I ate non-stop. The second week it was salt. The third week got a little better and it was salad, salad, and salad. I ate so much the first 3 weeks now I'm having a hard time eating at all. My taste buds must be better because I'm having a hard time with spicy food. It really burns my mouth. I hope that gets better because I love Mexican Food. I'm not craving unusual foods, it seems to be more like food groups.
