A Genuine Concern

I like the thought of celebrating milesstones ... it gives me something to work towards ... just like a reward. I like groups that advocate team work ... it gives support. As long as people that have been here a long time continue to reach out to new quitters and I think as long as groups working toward a goal continue to reach out to new folks ... it is all good and all is fine. ... just my 2 cents. I don't know Pentinent. I like the idea of having both newbies like myself, and elders or seniors in this bunch. Hope everyone sticks together and gives what they can. I mean what would it be like if I talked all day about quiting when I can't even muster up the kind of strength that these year long vets have. Kinda sad. Consider yourself wrong and help me out a bit. And study the oldest postings and see what you can learn. Later!

Hi Penitent, BFS has set me straight on your quit. Am I right in thinking that's 2 years tomorrow? Whether that's right or not, fantastic stats! All the best Mr Ed :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 2/13/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 93 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 2,801 Amount Saved: 697.5 Life Gained: Days: 15 Hrs: 13 Mins: 42 Seconds: 24

Penitent, Sorry if I'm repeating some of Lady's post. I was typing as she sent her response.. By the way, how is your quit going? Penitent, I don't think there's any intention to marginalise anybody. Just like in real life, it's normal to associate with people of a similar 'age', though we can have friends from all age groups. This applies to the newbies as well; I regularly see posts along the lines of 'I quit yesterday too', thereby forming an association. Think its also appropriate to mention that on my first day here, the first response I received was from RedRosie, a vereran compared to me. I like to think that as I approach 100 days, I spend much of my time giving my (albeit limited) advice to new quitters. You mention the VIP club; some members have several year quits, yet they still sign on to give help to others. The concepts of the Cruise Ship, The Beach, the VIP club etc are related to the length of quit and are designed to make the quitter feel a sense of achievement. Hope this helps to make you feel better about things... Mr Ed :) .. by the way, if you're a Newbie, you should be calling me sir (joking of course) :p My Milage: My Quit Date: 2/13/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 93 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 2,800 Amount Saved: 697.5 Life Gained: Days: 15 Hrs: 13 Mins: 29 Seconds: 22

Know where you are coming from here but when I was new it gave me something to aim for although 100 days to the first milestone was a bit daunting I must admit. I don't think it really matters so long as the members in these clubs don't go and hide away from everyone else. I also have to agree that these are fantastic milestones to achieve. I also notice that most people that are in them are also posting responses to all that need it and do not only "hang" in their respective clubs. I really like the thought of haveing a milestone to reach for. I think that for me personally it provides motivation and obtainable small step goals. Pen, You bring up an interesting point. Cuddles said that she had popped in on some of the groups. Now, not being a chat room sort of gal, are there other places on this site for folks to post? Do the monthly clubs have a secret tree-house? Sorry to revisit what you all have seemed to already resolve.
