You may have read about the gentleman who took 8 hostages in an attempt to rob a Bank of America in Exeter, CA. 7 were either released or escaped. The last one was in real danger and the melee continued for 12 hours. Finally the bad guy could not take it anymore and demanded cigarettes. This was the golden opportunity for the SWAT folks. When they delivered the smokes, the 8th hostage was able to get away. Hence - Advantage - If you are in danger and the suspect wants a smoke bad enough, it may save your life. Disadvantage - If you are not willing to be arrested, do not get a craving flung on you so bad that you lose your logic. End of story.
