Friends smoking in front of me

Great job!! 6 days is awesome. I've been smoke free for 3 days and love not smelling like smoke, my truck smells better, but as alot of people on this site know.. It's been tough for me (like it is for everyone).. So I admire you for 6 days! Do whatever it takes to keep going! I'm right behind you! Hi Fairy and Katy and everybody, Thanks for asking how I am, you guys are great! I feel okay, I get the urge to smoke when I am bored, but cigarettes don't actually tempt me (if that makes sense). The idea comes in my head to smoke but the thought is quickly barraged with anti-smoking thoughts. I am not planning on going out anytime soon, I think I could handle it...but since my boyfriend and I both quit together I know he wouldn't be able to (he started at age 11 and smoked newport regulars, yipes). I am so proud of myself for quitting that I think staying home and being smug about it sounds pretty good for the time being! Thanks for the advice and stories and take care. I feel much better today. I didn't exercise yesterday and I think that added to my "junkie" feelings. I thank you all for the suggestions and sharing your experiences. At least I am not alone! My boyfriend and I are planning to avoid bars indefinitely. Last night I was just feeling left out (from friends weekend activities) and cranky...but I know that I am not be ready to be around alcohol and won't be for a long time. I don't think either of us are really thrilled about avoiding bars because we are pretty social...and in the area we live in and the friends we have...it is assumed that if you are going to get together on the weekends it will involve alcohol somehow. Bars are the venue of choice usually. I am going to try and get people to meet me at non-smoking restaurants though (I handle those just fine)...Seattle passed a non-smoking law that you have to smoke 25 feet away from a building, so if my friends did smoke they would be way far away and I probably wouldn't be able to see them if I was inside :). It is so funny too...because 25 feet from a building sometimes means the middle of a street so the smokers have to be very creative where they light up or face a fine. Another reason to be happy that I quit! I absolutely hate the smell of smoke in my clothes, hair, breath or on other people, that totally reeks. I only get cravings when someone lights up in front of me. I wish it didn't bother me but I feel like I have been doing pretty good overall this week so having a few cravings isn't getting me down. Hey guys...I am having a hard time today. I hung out with my best friend who smokes (I actually started smoking with her in high school) and watched her smoke one after the other while we were doing errands together. She was trying to be respectful and not smoke, but she is such a chain smoker that I said I would be okay if she smoked in front of me. Probably shouldn't have done that but I was feeling empathy for her because I know she was going crazy with out a smoke. I just chewed gum and tried not to look at her. I am never going to where she is again, but it stresses me out to be around cigarettes nontheless. It is the smell that gets me...I know inhaling cigarette smoke would taste horrible at this point...but the smell just reminds me that I smoked and drives me crazy with cravings. I wish I could be fine hanging out with my friends. How long did it take everybody else to be able to be around smokers? All my close friends smoke (and we are friends beyond cigarettes) so they will always be in my life. I can tell weekends are going to be hard because I feel like I should be going to a bar with my friends and now I have to avoid it because it triggers smoking. I'm so cranky! Hope I feel better tomorrow. Hi Rissa, Hope you are doing alright still... Only you can decide what is right for you...However,all my friends smoke also...And I also enjoy drinking and going out as well... I went out the night after I quit (although I waited til last call to see how it would go...figured I would have a better excuse to leave...lol...like I needed one!) That went fine...I have been out to the bars a few times, been around my smoking friends, etc... It is just fine with me...I don't seem to be bothered by it as far as cravings go...I just think... That smoking stinks! Keep your quit! I don't drink that often, but I am giving it up anyway. It seems to be impossible for me to drink even a sip of beer and not light up. My quit is more important to me than the booze. Now, I am married and I work a lot so I don't exactly have time to go out often anyway. I would suggest that you find something fun to do with your friends that does not involve bars and alcohol. Movies, "game night," go out to dinner, etc... Your good friends should be willing to support you through at least the initial rough period. Good luck and beware of the junkie thoughts. Hi RissaRoo, I had the same problem, and I think that I ticked off some people along the way. I was suppossed to go out for dinner with a few friends last week. I know that some of them smoke, and that we'd probably be having alcohol with dinner. I canceled the dinner date with the person who had organized it, and explained my situation to her. I just wasn't ready for this. BTW: Haven't heard from the person who organized the dinner, oh well, her loss not mine. At least I am still a non-smoker. I have the opposite problem. I can't remember where I was in my quit but the smell of the smoke is awful to me. My husband is quitting now also, but when he was still smoking in the garage and would come back in the house I could'nt be around him it smelled so bad to me. It might be better for you if the smell does'nt bother you or you are going to think your friends stink all the time. None of my friends smoke anymore so I don't have that problem. I don't know why some people who quit are bothered by the smell and some people are not. Rissaroo, I am glad to hear you are doing good. Pretty soon you are going to walk by someone who is smoking and instead of wishing that was you, the thought you are going to have is that you are sooo glad you don't have to smoke anymore. Yes you may still have cravings, but you will still be glad the person smoking is not you. Keep up the good work. Seven days is really great!
