Bambi, I am also one who has to keep putting something in my mouth and I'm not a big one for exercise. Still, I lost weight when I quit smoking! I just changed what I put in my mouth. Lots of water for one. I hated drinking water so I added some Crystal Light to the bottles at first and used flavored sparkling waters so they would taste like soda. Now I actually like water which is a big surprise to me! I eat cherry tomatoes, pumpkin seeds (time consuming), and pretzels for snacks. When I really have to have something good, I eat a few peanut M&Ms. Sugar-free jello soothes the soreness you have in your throat at first after quitting smoking and tastes good. Most smokers don't eat breakfast. This was a hard one for me. Boiled eggs and oatmeal both keep me really full in the morning so I don't feel like snacking. If you don't care that much for oatmeal like me, add dried, fresh, or thawed frozen fruits, nuts, some brown sugar, and a dollop of whipped cream. It ends up tasting like a dessert and really fills you up. In any case, some kind of breakfast will keep you from snacking in the morning. My exercise was bending my arm to my mouth smoking a cigarette. I loathe gyms and any form of organized calisthenics. I started by parking farther away from stores and my work. Yes, I gave up my coveted front row parking spot! I would walk that short distance like a power walker swinging my arms even though it only took me a few minutes. Then I decided to take a walk around the buildings where I work before getting in my car. I didn't have an iPod with me when I decided this so I thought I would just sing to myself. The only song I could think of was the Beverly Hillbillies song. Now listen to a story 'bout a man named Jed... I was shocked to see how much energy I had when I got home. I could actually walk for some time without coughing and wheezing! Quitting smoking was the hard part and you've done that! What do they say...it's like a drug addiction? A few pounds of weight won't hurt your body like smoking does. I'd like to have my house spotless but small steps...small steps. Susan

Bambi, Be kinder to yourself is great advice. That was the first thing said to me when I went into this sight and I was so touched that I took it to heart. It is true. You have first accomplished one thing, Not Smoking. Now, taking the next a step further is not easy, but can be done. Cut back on the bad foods first, walk a little more, excerise in someway a little more. Keep on doing this and you will be on track. Carmen Take Care and

Hi Bambi, Rusty said it all - come and join us. We are all making a difference for each other. And the weight is coming off, one day at a time (like out Quits). Watch your words, they're incredibly powerful, dear one. Be gentle and kind to yourself. Bambi, If you are a beginner with getting exersize (like me), you might try walking. Not only is it great exersize, it helps to clear all the poisen out of your body! You can start small and work your way up. You'll be surprised how much easier it is to walk since your only breathing the air and not the smoke!! Before I quit, the only exersize I got was walking outside to smoke! Bambi, well done on 40 days, you got to this major milestone through sheer grit and determination. You can control weight gain using the same method. I gain weight quite neasilly but when I do I refuse to buy a larger size so eventually I have to take action to fit into my clothes. Do not start thinking that you are going to put another 7lbs on over the next 40 days because you probably will. Tell yourself that you are not going to put that weight on and you probably won't. Bambi, At 45 days I noticed that I needed to change many things in my quit. One was my attitude the other was the weight I was gainning. So I put a stop to it by starting a exercise program. I can't afford a gym so I'm walking, I'm up to 20 miles a week. This put a stop to the weight gain. Now I have to control the amount I put into my mouth. But an exercise program at the gym or at home will help you and a lot of ways. It helps also on bring on a positive attitude and while walking you get to meet new friends and share your quit journey with them. You never know who God might send your way that you might be able to help them in some way. Wow, Bambi, now that's negative thinking! If you can quit smoking, you can also get a handle on your weight. It's a matter of positive thoughts, loving yourself, and positive actions. So turn that thinking around and join us on the Daily Diet Watch. Choose right now to eat in a healthier way and start walking! bambi, You can combat this! Try stuffing your face with low calorie snacks and drinking lots of water. Check with your doctor to come up with a plan for exercise and portion control for your eating habits. You can take it step by step, and know that you have succeed 40 days! This you can be proud of :) Keep Strong, Josie _____________________ The SSC Support Team.
