Cybrduke, More than anything, I'm impressed with the fact that you took the abuse and have no hard feelings. That's amazing. You're an inspiration to me. My mother is the one that has historically been the worse on me. She has the same defeatist attitude your friend has. In all of my quits she's told me that I wouldn't be able to make it, and it wasn't worth the effort. I realize that's the Nicodemon talking through her, but it's also caused me to have no contact through this quit. More than anything, protect your quit. You're doing GREAT. Cigarettes Not Smoked

Hello again! You are a great person! Most of my family and friends that smoke now have tried quitting many times. This was my first "real" quit, and I am succeeding. I hope that they see how positive I am, and happy, and glowing, that it just might give them a thought to quit. Even if they don't quit, if you can get them to see how life is on the other side without saying a word, they might be opt for trying to quit once again! That is how I am trying to be now. :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 3/5/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 40 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 1,218 Amount Saved: $130.8 Life Gained: Days: 3 Hrs: 6 Mins: 22 Seconds: 56

Hi there Cybrduke! I too was one of those horrible smokers that taunted quitters. I used to say that I would die anyway, so why not die happy.............. Oh, Oh, Oh, what a smokers response...... I feel such pity for smokers. It is still their choice to stay smoking. Ready or not, they choose not to even try. But I vow, now, to support anyone who is interested. I always have smokers around me. At first I'm sure they said that I was one of those dreaded quitters............ But now I have lessened the degrading talk, so I just tell people how great I feel, instead of belittling the fact that it is a choice. I applaud you for sticking with your friend. I dont think I could have even been near him without ripping his head off for stupidity. You are a bigger person. :) And a wonderful friend. Hopefully he will come around. Cybrduke: Congratulations on your inner strength. Those were similar to the thoughts that went through my head when I caved in. Keep strong!!! Hi Cybrduke, I wanted to give you a Hipp Hipp Horray!!! on your attitude. " MY MIND REJECTED EVERY BIT OF THAT CRAP." Good for you! I think you read that whole situation correctly. I can tell you my experience with my Mum-in-law. Her and I were the only smokers in my whole extended family. Strange I know. It was always just the 2 of us huddled out in the cold smoking at family events. My hubby was actually the one that told her I had quit. She didn't say much then. 3 or 4 weeks went by without any contact, then she called one day to vent about her daughter. No mention of my quitting. I, being stubborn also didn't mention it. Another 2 weeks went by, another phone call. She did bring it up then. This is the conversation." I hear you've quit smoking." "Yes, it's been about 40 days now." " How much weight have you gained?, that's why I won't quit, I don't want to get fat" So like you said, junkie talk. I didn't get upset or was even too surprised by her lack of support. We were in that place not too long ago ourselves. She has since said she is proud of me, but I know she misses her smoking buddy. I will still go outside with her when she smokes, but just because I love her and hope to set a good example for her. You may yet again run into a lack of support, but you seem to have the right attitude to deal with it. " I've moved beyond that. I know better." AWESOME!! Cybrduke... Great Job! Not only have I heard what your friend said before...I beleive I have probably even said it myself to others. LOL It is the addiction talking. Its amazing how our attitudes change towards the smoking once we quit and taste the freedom. When I smoked, I always thought the non-smokers were exaggerating everything and they just needed to get over themselves. Now I see they are so right! It is awful. Congrats on you new attitude! Cyberduke, I am ashamed to say that when I smoked, I was the WORST with practically daring people to go back to smoking! I didn't want them to do it because then #1, I would lose my smoking buddies and #2, it would mean that it was possible and I might have to do it, and that just wasn't in my game plan at the time. So yes, I've SAID the same things that your friend said to you. I also received comments like that when I quit (guess it was payback). So yes, I totally understand where you are coming from. Just keep up your awesome attitude and maybe your friend will see how well you're doing and might follow suit. I find that it's the ones who are really mad and don't support you that actually end up quitting because they're the ones who WANT to quit and are resentful because you're doing it and they "can't." So just be a good example and maybe he will follow in your footsteps. Crave the Quit! Hi, cybrduke. Kudos for recognizing your friend for the addict he is and what he was saying as classic junkie talk. Stay friends with him, he can't help what he's saying. Perhaps your success will eventually lead him into his own quit. One can always hope. :) There's one man here who was never really a friend, more of a benevolent working acquiantance. We used to spend much time outside smoking and talking. He now has no use for me, won't even say "Hi" in the hall. While I wish things weren't this way, I do feel I've gained more than I've lost. He's just lost with no gain. Maybe someday... There is no way I cannot be his friend. We have known each other for over 20 years. We have been through it all together. To this day i would give him the shirt off my back if he needed it. BUT..... I wont put up with that garbage he spewed at me. I'm not going to get angy or say much to him about it. he's allowed his opinion even if i disagree. We can disagree on this and stay friends and I do think my quit will eventually rub off on him. Maybe not... Smoking is something that people do. I have to accept and live with that. Smoking is NOT something this people does anymore. They have to accept that and live with it. See how easy it is to achieve harmony? Now, let me focus all this on the middle east.....
