Lower your expectations?

I dont know if I agree with this advice.  When i was feeling happy I would be able to be happy about anytihng... a coffee... a 15 minute walk lol....

Now nothing makes me happy.  but i sure know that I am not going to lower what i want from life....if anything that would be demotivating.... those are jsut my thoughts though

hi,
I know when all you feel "is what a miserable disappoinment this ride is"
you hope tomorrow "the pills will kick in and I will be able to think something different".

I have spent days and months in this circle of pain, where every thought hurts because I know where all the scars are and can pick at them and can open the wounds.  Part of the solution is the medication. Part of the solution is brute force. It is taking your attention elsewhere.

I use the program and my psychologist, with pratice it easier to ride a middle ground; not falling into the bottom of black pit. I  do not hope in these moments - it is not really hope for me (In these moments I generally do not want to see another day) .  I ride it out.  I make it through the day (and I have to hide it from my young children).

I have noticed that when my mood is at it's blackest my reasoning capacity is at zero!  I have read some of my thoughts ! I will go around in circles and make no sense only non-sense that hurts.  So it best for me to keep as far away from thinking as possible!  TV is my friend at such moments (comedies and MTV).  Comic books and short stories of magic and faeries are good. Even drawing and beading are good alternatives since they use other parts of my brain.... until "I have some little snag in the depressive mood" and "I can catch my breath."

Hi Rosie,

This is a tough one I can see how you would feel frustrated and confused.  First of all, what do you expect from life? What do you want from life and what do you hope for?

Stick with the program it will help.

I am now on session 3 of the program and am also seeing a psychologist. She recently advised me to 'lower my expectations' of what to expect out of life, as I at the moment I feel like it is one big dissapointment. How am I supposed to lower my expectations when all I expect is the worst?? I do HOPE that life will get better, but seem pretty good at proving myself wrong. I would like to believe that life will get better and that things do work out in the end, but I honestly don't. I WISH life was very different, that my life was different in so many ways, but somehow my hope seems to be part of the reason I feel let down. What am I supposed to expect from life then, if hope is making me sad because I feel I will never get what I want, and not hoping is no way to live your life. Any advice? I feel very confused...
