Have you considered medication? Sometimes medication in concert with CBT or talk therapy can do wonders.

Lori,

I'm sorry to hear that you feel that the program isn't helping you. Have you read through all of the sessions? There is a lot of great information and many helpful exercises, and it can be overwhelming - which is why it is important to work through the program at your own pace. Please also read through the forums. There are many members who have and are going through the same thing as you, and who are feeling the same way. In saying that, please also post often. We are here to help and support you in whatever you need.
How long have you felt depressed? Was there a time in your life that you can remember when you didn't feel depressed?

Hi all,

I have negative thoughts all the time. I have no energy to do anything. The program isn't really helping me for some reason. I'm not getting better at all. As you can tell, I'm fed up with having depression and I wish it will go away. I started a DPT class yesterday was my first day and they talked about Mindful thinking and I was lost.
Its hard to change the way you feel when you have depression and I'm trying but I'm having no luck.

hi  julie.

you would be surprised how many employers like bipos ... especially the type 2.  We snap out of depressive periods and tend to have hi energy - hi productive periods; hypomanic periods.  We live for the adrenaline rush.

Seriously,  if you started having symptomes of heart problems would you ignore them?  Would you hide from the fact you were diabetic and not get proper treatment?  Julie,  what a questionaire might tell you is bipolar disorder a blood test will tell you is an ... under functioning thyroid.

In the long run you are morgaging your health.  You really need to talk to the the GP and get to the root of any problem; physical or emotional.  From there you can discuss the options about disclosure.  If you are depressed because of a set of circomstances that is not the same as dealing with MDD.

Julie,

When applying for jobs, the company or agency is responsible for telling you what information they will have available to them. Perhaps speak to human resources, they will be available to go over what type of information they have the right to view in terms of your medical record.

In terms of your counsellor, most operate under the agreement that unless there is mention of harm to oneself or others, all information is confidential. It is important that at your next session, go over patient confidentiality with them and clarify what information will be made available to your GP.

Please continue to post and let us know how you are doing.

Hi Rose306,

I have done a few on-line tests and they suggest bipolar, amongst a few other things. I just can't see my GP yet I need to be in control and even though I don;t always feel it once this is out my world will become upside down and I don't think I can cope with that. Part of the reason also is because I am a professional it may become difficult should I leave work and then wish to work somewhere else either here or abroad and I think this may hinder any chance should this happen. I have told this to my friend but she said just tick no when it asks about depression but they check your medical records and I don't want to lie. Now this might never happen and I am doing a job that I love, even when I feel really down, work keeps me going when I am there. Trying to gather all my options and may speak to him, am supposed to be seeing my counsellor again in the new year but not sure she is right for me, she is attached to university and would contact GP or worse if she felt she needed to, so may try the samaritans again in the new year as they don't needed to know anything about me. didn't have the courage last time but thing I should give it a try.

Thanks for your support and if anyone else can shine a light on applying for jobs and what perspective employers are allowed to see I would appreciate this.

hi julie - sorry you're feeling so scattered. i remember someone asking you weeks ago if you were on any medication. are you? you've mentioned panic attacks before. you need to talk to a doctor, julie.  a good head sorting sounds just about right. is that like the lobotomy i sometimes wish for? lol notice your pattern - you said there was a time you felt really good and now you're back in the pit. maybe you are bipolar? i just got that bombshell dropped on me......hang in there, you're not alone

Julie,

Give yourself a break and relax your mind and body.  Start focusing and challenging those thoughts when you are calmer.  It is ok to post and let us know how you are feeling, even if it is not good.

Post with us later and let us know how you are doing, it is ok to have a nap or a relaxing couple of hours to get you back on track.

I am so fed up, not wrote for a while not really in the mood to be honest. Saw a counsellor the other day regarding an assignment that is due in on Monday have not done it can't face it but feel so let down by myself for not doing it. Not in the right fame of mind. Feel like well I don't know can't really say here but just need to really get my head sorted. Think at times I will have breakdown but hanging on by thread. Don't really know why I have posted here at the moment cos I am all over the place. Did have a spell were happy felt really good and could do anything but thats gone.

Going now try to post later.
