bella, me too, GAD. i take klonopin, it helps. i agree, too bad, no blood test. trial and error, just like life. hang in there and don't be afraid to find a good doctor and go with a plan to reduce your anxiety. exercise helps, selfawareness helps, and drugs help. the more you know the better off you are

From what I have been reading that blood test will have to be a test to find several genes on a few chomosones.  we might have better luck with a scan...

I feel the anxiety first and have been always told I have GAD - then throughout the year I deal with episodes of depression. I am learning to stop fighting it and accept it. My biggest mistakes - going off a medicine that was working just because I feared how I would pay for it when I had money to pay for it. Wouldn't it be nice to have a blood test for all this mental illness and given the cure to all these horrible things we all face. I am in the first stages of yet another episode of anxiety and full depression has kicked in. Oh if they spent all that money on research instead of advertising their antidepressants - we would all be better off.

Yup, that was how I did it... just really slow beacuse I did not know I was Bipo and anxiety was a symptom not the problem.
But I did it with a group that became my friends @ Phobie-Zero.

Wildcat,

You may also want to check out our sister site, The Panic Centre to help you with your OCD's.

One component of treatment with OCD involves geting people to gradually reduce their compulsive behaviour and "exposing" themselves to the discomfort (anxiety) created by not perfroming the compulsion.

The second main component for treatment of OCD involves getting people to do exposure work in which they "expose" themselves to their disturbing thoughts.

A third component of treatment for OCD involves getting peope to use thought records to challenege what the disturbing thoughts "mean," including for example, their sense of responsibility for bad things happening to other people.

Hope this helps!

Well, they're obviously connected as reduced and stressful states of being. In my case, it's more the other way around, that my anxiety - more specifically my acute social anxiety - is at the root of much of my depression. It disconnects me from my fellow human beings, has crippled my career, has shrunken my self-esteem and confidence to microscopic levels, and is a major contributor to my feelings of insignificance and worthlessness and subsequent frustration, anger and self-hatred.

When I can get the social anxiety licked, I'll be long way to feeling better all around.

yup... and the worse the depressive episode the more anxiety symptomes I present.
I normally deal with GAD, and ODC - lite.

Under unusual stress, I go OCD-extreme!!!

When I am non-functional; I am agoraphobique!

I never knew my anxiety was caused by my depression.  I know if I can stay calm it helps me slow down or arrest the worsening of the depression. Interesting!  I absolutely hate that feeling of anxiety and the physical manifestations.

Did you know?

Anxiety attacks are symptoms of a form of mental illness which can be caused by depression. Many phobias are accompanied by anxiety and one of the most effective treatments for an anxiety attack symptom is CBT (cognitive behavioral therapy).
