Hi Jewel,

The thing about crappy days is that they are yours. Doesn't really matter what anyone else's crappy day consisted of, yours was still crappy. With that said, never feel bad about sharing. It helps to vent even if it didn't take the crap away.

It is difficult to work, have a relationship and a baby to care for. Take some time out for you to relax, spend some time just playing with your son. He will take his feedings better if you are relaxed. This is easier said than done but it will benefit you both and strengthen your bond.

Keep hanging in there Jewel, you are not alone

josie-thankyou for your definition i still don't really understand how calling someone an emo helps or

makes the situation any better and i don't even understand how i am supposedly one

mom of 3-i related a lot to your story as i too remember being 5 or 6 and just being different....thankyou for sharing it made me feel less alone

today was a really horrible day. i had work and every customer just seemed to have some sort of complaint, and then i was on my break and this customer wanted me to help them when i was clearly not on duty, and then i come home and my partner was just really cranky and my baby didnt want to co operate and wasnt feeding properly. everything was too much and i feel so bad for writing this here because i just feel like im a nuisance to everyone. everyone else has better things to do then listen to my crappy day and in some peoples eyes it probably wasn't even that bad but i feel so drained and down atm. sorry

Hi JJ! Friends hmm... they often simply don't understand, don't want to or are afraid. I had the same discussion with my best friend that is also a doctor.... She is an oncology specialist but anyway... And it was fear because for her work (she sees to much terminal people) she got depressed to. But she fears the idea of taking meds for depression even if she would like to talk to a consellor. I understud something important in a face to face talk often people tend to refuse depression even if they are not thinking like that.

As for your past is not so uncommon. The most important thig is to get your past out and to try to deal with the present.

Thank you for sharing. It's not easy to put your feelings out there for others to read. There are alot of people here who understand you because we also have depression. Your "friend" has no idea what she is talking about. One does not "just get over" depression. Your "friend" needs an attitude adjustment (spoken like a true Mom, I know).

I can remember having depression as early as 5 or 6 years old (that's a long time ago). I didn't know what it was except I was incredibly sad and afraid. I went through my teens and young adult life without really understanding what was wrong with me, but I knew that I was not "normal". It wasn't until age 32 that I received a diagnosis. You are starting much earlier than I did to do something about your depression, stay with it! Everyone here wants you to succeed. Please keep us posted on how you're doing.

This is a step towards the positive goal and journey. We do know where you are coming from and the experiences shared can help you every step of the way. Take it step by step and yes we do understand.

"Emo" is a very general term and can be taken out of context.. Google lists the definition as:

Emo is a style of hardcore punk which describes several variations of music with common roots. In the mid-1980s, the term emo described a subgenre of hardcore punk which originated in the Washington, D.C. music scene. In later years, the term emocore, short for "emotional hardcore", was also used to describe the emotional performances of bands in the Washington, D.C. scene...etc..

There are many variations to the definition, so it remains in the eye of the beholder.

Take the test and bring a copy to your doctor. This can help better assess the situation for you both and get you onto the program with a positive start.

a lot of us know very well what you went through... we have lived the same experience. And it is not about you. It is not about you being weak or a diva or a showcaser... You came up against the stigma that we all Fear. the nasty lies that people believe because they do not understand and do know what depression really is.

Depression is an illness. And because you feel the pain of this illness you know it is real and horrible.

I am sorry that it was a friend that hurt you. You know that by coming here you have taken your treatment into your hands and are doing yourself a world of good. We are all here to support and help you!

i am a 19 yr old. i hve a 8 mnth old son and we live with his father my partner together. my depression really started to kick in when i was about 12 or 13 but i can never really remember a time when i was truely happy. i hve been on efexor once but it didnt seem to help me at all and i jst gave up taking them. but i think its time i went back to my docter and get sum advice about sum different pills because life is just getting too much now. i work 2 days a week atm and i am also studying one day a week. it is a constant struggle to get to these ventures but i push myself to go because if i dont go i feel evn worse about my self in the end although when i get home after i feel so drained and tired. ive succeded in pushing most of my friends away. they dont understand me, they tell me to just be happy and i really wish i could switch that button on but its really not that easy. one paticular nasty friend told me that i was an attention seeker and a "emo"??? because she found out that i had cut my self. she told me to stop being a depresso and get on with my life and it really hurt me because i thought she was my friend but she was not who i thought she was. i try not to show my emotions to the world and only let in a few people. i feel strange writing this knowing that a lot of people i dont know will know how i feel and think. but i think for me this is a big step for something positive?
