3rd Psychiatrist - New Medication (Antipsychotic)

I have finally reached the right medication. It took 4 months and 10 different medications to find out which meds work for me. I am currently on Perphenazine, Remeron, Seroquel and Procyclidine and I am doing much better.

going on/changing meds is very tough because neither the doc or you can know how you will react to it and you just have to wait and see if it makes a difference. I've been trying to hit the right combination for two months.

Sharon, Have you tried relaxation techniques? What about breathing techniques? For tonight, prepare by reducing your anxiety level as much as you can. Try a hot bath, some soothing music or a warm beverage? YOu are right tomorrow is a new day. Plan to wake up with a positive outlook for your day, do activities that make you enjoy the most. Take sometime out for yourself. Continue with your meds and therapy. Inform your therapist of your feelings and he/she will assist you through them. Things here remain the same. I feel like th wicked witch of the west as I can't deal with my two girls. I have 2 therapy sessions this week and hopefully that will help. I have decided to stay at my mother-in-laws house while she is not there for part of the week. My therapy is Wednesday and Friday so I will stay there Wednesday and Thursday night. In speaking with my Psychiatrist I have double my medication. The meds are supposed to take the edge of my emotions, but at this point is not working and may be making it worse. I don't know if I am worse because of the meds or the therapy. I can't believe how many issues I have. I will let you know what happens with my therapy. Take care and think positive thoughts. Sharon

Hi Gabbi, I'm glad that you husband is treating you better. Things here have gotten worse. The therapy seems to make it worse. I will be going twice a week to therapy next week. I have seeing a different psychiatrist now who I reallylike and responds to my phone calls or emails quickly. I think I will be moving into my mother-in-laws house, who is away at the moment as I can't deal with the kids at all. Any little things sets me off and it is not good for them to see me like that or bear the brunt of my problems. In regards to my trip back home I have cancelled my trip, and thankfully the airline was wonderful and gave me 100% of the my ticket back. Initially is was only going to be 75% of my ticket. My travel/cancellation insurance doesn't cover mental or emotional disorders, but Cathay Pacific came through for me. I will hopefully be booking to fly back to Australia in June so I can be home for my birthday, and the my brother, sister, father, and nephew's b'day. Take care and talk to you soon. Sharon

Hi Sharon how are you?I hope all is well.I think you need to focus on getting you better before trying to travel as much as im sure you'd love to be able to i think its just adding more pressure on you to get better and i dont think that helps any.Im sure your family will understand you are going through a fair bit at the moment.I came home and my husband has been so good he cant do enough for me trouble is though it never lasts but i have layed down the law i told him if we are going to stay together he has to start pulling his weight or im outa here i proved to him(and myself) that i can do it alone so hopefully he wises up.Talk soon.Gabbi.

The reason why I am postponing my trip is because I have been adivsed by the 3 Psychiatrist that I need to postpone. The only way I would be able to is if they knock me out for the entire trip, which they can't as I am taking my 2 children with me. I also think that the trip would be extremely stressful for me as I would be seeing a lot of family and friends who I haven't seen in quite a while. It is also Xmas time and there would be lots of family gatherings and parties. I don't think that is what I need to get better. My main focus now is to get better. Also, I have not been able to leave my house for 4 months and I only leave my house when I have to go to the doctor. I have been trying a lot of different medication and it is not working. I will go back home in June which is only 8 months away. I will be able to celebrate my birthday with my family, and celebrate my sister, brother, dad and nephews birthdays.

I don't think your experience is uncommon, but even knowing that doesn't make it less frustrating. Finding the right psychiatrist, therapist and meds can be challenging. Sometimes having a therapist and a psychiatrist who can work together can help. A therapist who sees you on a regualr basis can get a better sense of what is really going on and can observe changes in your behavior which, in turn, can help a psychiatrist determine more accurately what meds might be most effective for you. It really sounds as if going to Austrailia for xmas was very important to you and something you were looking forward to doing. I would like to ask why you feel you should postpone your trip? After see a 3rd Psychiatrist today, he diagosed me with despression (which I knew) and Agoraphobia (which I didn't know). I have now gone from my first visit to my family doctor and being told that I am "just not coping" to my 1st Psychiatrist who diagnosed me with to depression, anxiety, panic disorder and social phobia, 2nd Psychiatrist diagnosed me with major clinical depression with anxiety, to my 3rd Psychiatrist today. I am so confused that I don't know what I have or what to treat. I am no longer taking Cipralex, cutting my Remeron in half and tapering off Remeron over the next 3 weeks, and adding Perphenazine which is an Anxiolytic - Antipsychotic - Antiemetic medication. I have never heard of this drug. Has anyone ever taking Perphenazine? I feel so lost and I have no idea what is wrong. I was due to go back home to Australia with my two daughters and spend Xmas with my family, but I have to postpone my trip. I have been saving up to go and have purchased the tickets, only to find out that I will only get 75% of my fare back as my travel insurance doesn't cover mental or emotional distress/disturbances. This just adds tomy negative thoughts. I really wanted to spend Xmas with my family which I haven't done since 1991. My youngest daughter has never been to Australia and my oldest's last visit was in 1996. There has always been something that got in the way of me going backhome. Now that I finally have a well paid and secure job, paid down all our debt and saved enough money to go and purchased the tickets, now this happens. WHY! WHY! WHY!
