I'm feeling extreemly depressed today. Many times I feel like I should be in a hospital, but there I would have nothing to live for and I would still be dealing with the same hell. Is there any relief! I'm sorry that I offer no encourage ment. I just need help so bad and it seems no one can.

Hi Bea, I read your comments on feeling a loss of identity. I don't know if I should say anything because at this point I don't feel I can be a sorce of encouragement except to say I understand. I am also on Cymbalta. We seem to have a lot in common. Today has been a very bad day for me, but since I've started the Cymbalta I have had some better days. My doctor couldn't say enough about it and I guess it's the newest and greatest stuff out there. Bea, do you have any children? Are you at home alone all day during the day? If this is the case I would highly suggest that you find some way to be around people at least for part of the day on a consistant basis. Sinse I have kids I am forced to be involved in there daily activities, sports, school events, etc.. This has been my life saver at times because it gets me out of the house and around people. Try to get out and around people even if it means volunteering for something. It will do you wonders. Hope this helps even a little, cause I truely feel for you. Take care. Remember tomorrow is a new day and life is full of surprises.

Bea toastmaster is a nonprofit group that focuses on public speaking..that sounds scary to some people...however you start real slow and you actually don't have to participate. you can just observe. you don't have to make decisions about joining etc...there is no pressure. there a number of people who join, because they are terrified of public speaking and they may have other social problems also, so there is an awareness of this in the group. one of the purposes of the group is to find the positive aspects of people and their presentations, so they are always supportive. there are small rewards, recognizing all your achievements, no matter how minor. its a free no-risk experience. each group is different, but from my experience the members go out of their way to welcome and include new people. i am socially phobic and have been in a number of groups. this is by far the best experience i have had. if you decide to join there's a fee of a couple of hundred dollars per year. you can meet a lot of interesting people from many different walks of life. you can trust the organization. they are not attempting to get anything from you. there are also a few social gatherings and conventions, if you care to go. let me know if you try it. often there are several groups in your area...you can try them all without any obligation take care...bob

Hi Lori, I've been reading your comments and I can so relate to everything you are saying. I also feel like I've lost my identity. I feel so lost and disconnected from everything and everyone (including my husband). I've just begun therapy and have also been placed on Cymbalta. I just feel so lonely and I often wonder why must I go through this. I truly feel like I am dying inside. Does this sound familiar at all to anyone? Bea

Hi bob47, Thank you for your recommendations. I'm not familiar with toastmasters, however. What sort of organization is this? Bea

bea, You have come to the right place. The members here are very supportive and helpful. Please take a look around the site, there are many useful tools and tests at your leisure. You may also print the tests and bring them to your doctor. This may better assess the situation for you both. Please post often and lean on us, we are always here. hi bea toastmasters and some church groups are nice, friendly, nonthreatenig groups you can join.. you have to do some due diligence on churches to find the right one. i have been in a number of therapy groups and usually the group interaction and environment is what makes you feel better, not necessarily the topic of discussion. the above two types of groups are could because they often reach out to include and are fairly non threatening. i have spent some time in a new town and i had some tough times. take care

Hello everyone. I'm so grateful to have discovered this site. I've just moved to a new town and I am severly depressed. My husband is working all day and I am home alone in a house that I hate; I have no friends or anyone to talk to. I've been dealing with depression all my life, but never have been officially diagnosed. This move sent me to the depths of hell and I had to seek help or end it all. I saw a psychiatrist and I have been officially diagnosed with clinical depression. I've just started Cymbalta and will be in therpay once a week for now. It is too soon to tell if this medication will work, but it's my last hope. I just feel worthless and alone.
