Effoxor xl/xr withdrawal

I was on Effexor from November 2002-January 2005 (25 months). In December 2004 I quit divalproex cold turkey with no side effects. I also at this time began taping my Effexor dosages. I was on 300mg Effexor. Over a period of one month I lowered my dosage to under 75mg. I used combinations of 150mg pills, 75mg pills, and 37.5 (and less) mg pills i made myself by emptying the 150mg pills into piles and transfering these piles of little white spheres into emptied out cheap cold medication capsules. by the end of the month I was down to 37.5mg (less than that actually). I did not experience any withdrawls or problems while tapering Effexor. When I went from the less than 37.5mg dosage to 0mg I became dizzy and also had flu symptoms (nausia, weakness, hot head and face). The dizziness was something I had never experienced with any flu before. These symptoms were debilitating and lasted for one week. I am not a big fan of sharing medication experiences because of the unscientificness of anecdotes, and the placebo effect. However ..wth I like to talk about myself.

It is by far the worst med I have ever come off of and if somebody had told me I never would have taken it. Anyway it took me about 3 weeks to get over the really bad brain zaps and dizziness. Good luck to you!! I have read that dramamine can help. Also, I had the doc prescribe me a month of Prozac and that helps to ease some of the symptoms. Sorry you have to go through this too.

Yes, I agree that Effexor XR was one of the best drugs I was on for Depression and Anxiety, and when I quit taking them, I started on Chinese medicine, and later went back to a combination of prescibed herbs and drugs now. When I stopped Effexor, I had the shocks feeling for about two weeks, with a spell of a few days in bed, and vomiting at the end. I did not know about stopping them so slowly and suffered the consequences. After two weeks I was fine, except, I have never been able to really conquer my weight problems.

Hi nade, I am sure that other members will be responding to your post soon, however I just wanted to suggest that you also follow up with your doctor about the weaning of of medication and expected effects. Casey ___________________________________ The Depression Center Support Team

Hi! I have been on this drup for about 2 yeas, I ahve to say I have been through the lot and this is by far the only thing that has worked for me! I have been down to 75mg per day for a couple of months and have just stopped taking thi a couple of days ago, after taking 75g every other day for couple of days. Feeling Ok, have acouple of head shocks but that is about it. Please could someone advice me if these will get any worse and how long it wil take to feel normal again? (Well as normal as I get!) Thanks
