Shannon... I actually have had depression since I was 14 and I wish I had kept going with my treatment!.I didn't, and I almost died 3 years ago because I never dealt with it properly.PLEASE get help if you need it, I remember being 17 .. 12 years ago.Life is SOOO gard when you first become an adult.People have all these expectations of you, but you are still very young , it dosen't seem fair does it?. Find a pychiatrist that you are comfortable with.Meet 5 of them if that is what it takes for you to find someone you have a good rapor with. The year I was seventeen I attempted suicide twice.I would hate to see anyone else go down the same road.I always felt like my mom favored my brother, who is 19 months younger than me.. because he did better in school than I did, and wasn't as tempermental as I am. Even to this day I sometimes feel like I am not good enough for my family. I am trying to overcome these kind of thoughts.I can relate to what you feel.. believe me.If you ever need to talk, email me at cardev@shaw.ca.Please take care of yourself! Kristin

Hi Shannon, great to read your post, im 20 and just starting to realize that how i feel maybe isnt normal. i went through some bad times starting around age 16, i dont think i really knew enough to think that i needed help. im so glad for you that you made that first step, and told someone that you needed help. im just trying to take that step now, and im so afraid that people are going to tell me to grow up and stop whining, that everyone has problems. i can relate to how you feel about your parents; my parents try to support me, but i think that they often do more harm than good. email me anytime at pilsburypop@yahoo.com is you need to vent, or whatever. take care of yourself!

You have got to keep yourself occupied. I was a little younger than you when I started getting depressed. I quit swimming, playing piano and even doing good in school. Keeping yourself occupied seems to be one the most important things you can do right now. I regret not staying envoloved with school functions. If you are out of school, try to find a job that will keep you occupied AND satisfied. Do things that you enjoy and write about them. You maight want to try writing down things that make you feel depressed and try to avoid them for right now.

Everyone goes through some hard things, just some more than others. I have experienced most of the things youre going through. I understand the what and why and am always willing to discuss and try to help anyone else. Please, feel free to email me at topprincess1@hotmail.com I promise- I will reply. Until then, keep praying and know that realizing you have a problem with depression is part of the battle. I know it can be hard, but try not to let others increase the depression. If your boyfriend is one of the ones helping you, do not be afraid to lean on him. My husband is the only reason I have lived through my problems. Seeing a psychologist sometimes helps, as long as youre open and honest.

Hi Shannon, I'm sorry to hear you are going through a difficult time. I want you to know that there are people out here who care and are willing to talk to whenever you feel the need to. I can relate somewhat to your emotions because when I was seventeen I didn't want to wake on many occasions and in fact attempted suicide twice. Realizing you need help is a great first step. Please follow through and talk to a professional. You may have a chemical imbalance and need to take the proper medication. Don't let anyone's behavior(even a family member) affect how you feel about yourself. You sound like an intelligent young woman and you have your whole life ahead of you. Always remember - You are not alone in the way you feel-there are many things you can do to feel better - read, write, talk. Whatever you need to do to make yourself feel better -just do it. You have a lifetime of beautiful, life affirming moments ahead of you. HANG IN THERE-LIFE IS WORTH IT! Let us know how you are doing. I am happy to talk with you anytime you feel the need to. Good Luck to you.

Hi! Ok, so I am a 17 year old female who is suffering from what I think is depression. I was looking around on the internet trying to figure out what was going on with my emotions when I stumbled upon this website. I took the depression test on this website and the outcome wansn't looking too nice. I am going to go and see a psycologist soon but I figured that if I put this post in then maybe I can get some help from much wiser people than my parents. I noticed a while ago that I wasn't happy with my life, randomly I will start crying and shaking and it goes on for about an hour. My mom blames everything on me and so it makes me feel like 1)everything is my fault, and 2)I am such a bad and horrible person. I didn't think that is was normal to cry myself to sleep every night and pray to God that I didn't wake up the next morning. I have a great boyfriend and we have been going out for about a year now, he was one of the few people to notice that I was really depressed. I wanted to go and see a psycologist, and so I wrote my dad an e-mail telling him that I was crying out for help, and I needed him to be there for me and get me to a place where I can talk to someone. Ok so now I am telling more of a life story and not a breif post. So I hope that someone will help me on this site. I really need to talk to someone.
