I am NOT a doctor...just have some experience with meds as in about 10 years of antidepressants - some meds worked well for several years then bombed out me. i urge you to talk to your docter and chemist. WRITE A LIST OF QUESTIONS and take it with you take a pen as well -- and if your hands are shaking get them to write the answers down for you. (or you can take notes ) in general psyche meds take weeks to start working - i know you don't want to hear this BE PATIENT. the side effects SHOULD wear off -- we humans are all very individual - and with psyche meds it is basically "try it and see" --- the med might work brilliantly for 9/10 people..but there is no way to see which person is the 1oth. except try it. Talk to your doctor / chemist/ nurse. Tell them if you really think the disease is better than the current side effects. Most of the medications have horrible side effects if you come off them too fast. Some medications are really really "time sensitive" that means if you took it at 9pm yesterday you really need to take it at 9pm today. getting the timing wrong can give you withdrawal effects. good luck.

I started taking Paxil one and a half years ago, 20mg per day, stopped completely about 3 months ago and the symptoms of MD came back, so I started taking them again, but I was really worried about the poosible side effects to be like when I started, but tell what! I didn't have the major disturbing side effects, and I feeling much better now, only a bit of dry mouth and yawning, that's it!! But I have decided to continue on CBT and I'm currently in the first week of the training.

I was on Paxil a few years ago and it completely flattened my moods. There are so many different options out there, talk to your doctor about what is happening and maybe you just need something else.

Hi members, Please be sure to consult with your doctor about any concerns regarding side effects of medications. Your local pharmacist is also a great resource. Casey ___________________________________ The Depression Center Support Team

Hey, Neeky, I'm on Paxil CR and have bad side effects - I get the "hot-n-colds" (where my feet are icy and the back of my head is hot and sweating), I puke EVERY DAY, I'm hypersensitive to scents, and the only good thing about it all is that my urge to kill myself is so much less than it was without the meds. I gotta take into consideration: what's better - my kid being motherless or no daily yakking?

Hi Neeky I have been taking Paxil for about 2-1/2 months now. I was switched to paxil from effexor while I was in the hospital. I got the side effects and they lasted for about 3-4 weeks. I was becoming discouraged but once the side effects subsided it was okay. This past week or so the paxil has kicked in and I feel pretty good. I am taking 40mg now and am supposed to go up to 60mg soon which my psychiatrist thinks will improve things even more. Hang in there, you are almost throught the side effects. I hope you have luck with paxil also. Good luck heather

Dear Neeky- I used to be on Paxil CR and it was not the right medication for me. I was on it for about 3-4 months and then took myself off of it because it made me gain weight. I was 120 when I went on Paxil CR. Now I'm 140. I got off of the meds on my own. It's not the proper way to do it though. I did do it and it was the worst feeling I had. I felt lightheaded, dizzy and overall out of it. So, I would suggest you think about reconsidering about taking Paxil CR. Susan-

Thank you for responding. I feel that I am feeling worse on the drug....have a hard time getting out of bed, brings on more anxiety, I feel like I am "coming out of my skin", etc. I am fighting the urge to stop the drug now, it has been 2 1/2 weeks and I am still depressed. I was just hoping to hear from others that they had similiar side efects at first (on this drug), but then they subsided. Hearing other success stories may give me the strength to keep taking this drug.

Hi Neeky, Welcome to the site :). Just a few quick question to ask you today: -What type of side affects are you having? -How long have you been on Paxil CR? Thanks for stopping by and we hope that we can continue to answer your question and concerns! Melanie

I have been on and off of anti-depressants for the past 13 years and haven't had any success. I was recently prescribed Paxil CR but find the side effects extremely hard to tolerate. Can anyone give me any hope! Will the side effects of this drug ever get any easier? I'm anxious to hear others peoples history with regards to taking this drug. Thanks!
