Hugs I certainly like your concern and compassion for people you don't even know. It is not that common now a days. Well it is here but we are a strange community. I would imagine life is even harder mentally for your Mom than the physical. I know it is for me. So every little bit of beauty counts. The more positive I practice the more positive I see. There is beauty in some of the strangest places.

I get all my news second hand from friends but I gather all over both sides of the border there are places without power and heat. Some places because of air quality rules are not allowed wood stoves or fireplaces so have no back up. A three thousand watt generator would run two electric heaters at least but not everyone can have one of them. Here at least it is warm enough houses wouldn't freeze even without back up.

I'm real sorry to hear about your hands. I know what that can be like.

Davit,
Thanks for giving me a lift.

I was affected positively by mom's appreciation of the beauty of some trees we can see, and their beauty.  It took years, to see this change in her, and I am grateful.  The stark reality outside of her view, is that there are streets blocked off, because of downed power lines, and even on our street, and out of her view, are downed trees.

I was actually thinking that I could make a killing with an axe, if I just did some chopping, and collected all the wood.  And it would save the city money too!  My hands hurt though, and I want to give them a rest, and am actually blessed with not having to cook for some days, since we have some stuff prepared.

I could take a picture from the park later, and post it.  I'd almost feel it inappropriate to take pics of any neighbours, since there is uncertainty what their hardship could have been,  with power having been out so long for so many, and knowing there are so many retired and isolated people.  I really have to harness some of the preparedness people like yourself take for granted.  Having a first aid blanket and CPR starter bag, got me to chuck it into the trunk, as a start today.  A memory of dad was that he assisted at my godparent's home at an accident, since they lived near the highway, where there were occasional collisions.  I have a bbq I won too, but a simple one, and feel I could learn to use it, since there could other situations when I might need to cook.

Wow

Hugs your post is so positive and the trees sound just lovely. I use a lot of ziplock freezer containers, most are the two cup size but I have others. Some times I break them when they are frozen but they are so handy.

Your veggie tray is so healthy Jenn!

I reheated some eggplant parmigiana which I'd made earlier in the week.  Mom had some cabbage rolls from yesterday.  I'll have to freeze the rest.  My brother brought more food, and I froze half of it.   Boy did I feel different after going out into the cold to get some freezer bags, since I appreciated the warmth inside!   Tomorrow I can heat some chicken they brought.

I need to make an inventory and schedule, or I'll lose track.  I think frozen food never is the safe as fresh.

All the sweets worry me, since now I see food for the ingredients they really are.  For example, as I left the gym, I had some orange juice, and fruitcake, but what I actually thought, was "I'm having water and sugar" and "water, sugar, pectin  and flour".

The trees are so beautiful outside since water is frozen to them, as though they've all been decorated by nature, with glistening branches, and high up too, sometimes with unique shapes.

I made a veggie tray, picked up a meat tray, shrimp ring, egg rolls and sausage rolls...having a guest over tonight.  The thought of eating the crap is making me anxious...almost like I can feel my arteries clogging as we speak.  I almost feel on the verge of a panic attack.  So maybe food makes me anxious....back to worrying about my stupid heart.  Why can't I have one day of mental rest?!?

Oh dear, you would ask. I've been into the mince meat tarts. Supper tonight will be a chicken breast, a boiled potato and a few carrots.
Tomorrow will be a stuffed cornish hen with potatoes and peas. And of course pumpkin pie which is very high GI.
If I was not baking I might have done a lamb roast and I really want to make yorkshire pudding, a once or twice a year treat. Some where in here I want to have steamed suet pudding with lemon sauce. Lemon pie filling makes a nice tart sauce if you leave out the eggs. Besides they are not necessary.

So back to making a cake and Red enjoy your supper.

Hi Red!!

Yum, your dinner sounds great. I hate to say it but I am just snacking on crackers and pate right now lol and will probably have a veggie smoothy later (very untraditional I know!). I wasn't able to make it home for the holiday's so it's just me and my partner. He'll have to make dinner tomorrow night though as I'll be online here so looking forward to that . I'm normally the cook so it will be nice.

Hope you enjoy your dinner Red!
