Pleasant Activities

10 years ago 0 4027 logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo 0
Red,
Those little monkeys are cute, but I wouldn't poke my fingers thru cages, since I hear their mom's are protective(but so is mine).

My pleasant activity step, is to stop "working" at things, except the essentials after dinner.  That leaves me to go for a walk, even do my shopping, since there are so few people and traffic.  The open window of time, also includes the weekends, since I used to drive myself, so I was getting tired.

When daylight savings time comes next weekend, I think I can clean up the garden, which isn't so much of a chore, since there are some things like parsley which can have a plastic sheet over, and be available for picking during the winter, which mom looks forward to(parseley - not the winter).

One pleasant activity which opened up was possibly karate.  There are lectures in the evening, too, as long as they're not too late, or conflict-ridden.

I might also add another tai chi course in the evening during the week, to try out another place, since the uneasiness, which seemed insurmountable for my Saturday class, has almost subsided.  What I don't get is how I can't remember anything?  I can only follow.

It's as though I've had something happen to my brain, and can repeat the smallest thing  Maybe my stress level is greater than I think.

Hi Red,

Thanks for sharing.  I imagine that baby orangutan was such a precious site!  How wonderful you were able to go for a walk through the zoo - even more that you truly appreciated your surroundings!

Vincenza it sure has!

With more exposure and pleasant activities today..

I did a 60 minute walk at the local zoo, through rain forests with waterfalls and several huge aviaries with birds of all colors and kinds. I even got to sneak a little peek from a distance at a Two day Old New Born Orangutan and its proud mother while I was there. Now if that wasn't reward enough and it was, I am now back at home this afternoon relaxing with a hot cup of tea and I am going to do a little reading and take a little cat napping too..

Thanks Ashley,

I have not been paying enough attention to this one lately. Pleasant Activities...Camping is one of my favorites.

I made reservations for Thanksgiving at a restaurant again this year but have really wanted to go camping on the holidays the last few years so we drove out to the back country this week and found a lovely campground with one campsite left and made reservations to spend 3 days camping amongst the Oak trees this year. It is 30 minutes from home so we can still drive in and have dinner at the restaurant if we want to. I also made reservations for 3 days of camping in the desert hot springs for Christmas this year. I did some shopping this week and had a good time shopping for decorations for the travel trailer. I found a little Christmas tree for the travel trailer, some outdoor lights to put up and some windows decorations and of course lots or bird seed for our little friends while there. It should be fun.

Now back to the present..I have been inside the house cleaning for the last 2 days and even though it was hard I enjoyed doing it and found out that I can still get the job done with a little help, it just takes me a little longer now that's all..

As for today, I am not quite sure yet..I got up at 6:15 a.m.while it was still dark out and have been sitting here for a while now, reading and posting. I just realized it's now 7:15 a.m.and the sky is starting to get a glow to it. How time files when you are thinking about the positives and having fun..

The day is still young..and so far it has been a pretty good day..

How many of you can't do this exercise because you feel guilty. You have a right to do this exercise, you have a duty to yourself to do it. And it is part of the program, an essential part of it. Besides it works.

According to some experts, depression is caused by a lack of pleasant activities. What are pleasant activities? Pleasant activities are simply things you like to do.

The basic idea is that when people are not depressed, their lives are made up of a wide variety of activities, some pleasant and positive, some unpleasant and negative, and some neutral. According to the theory, in order to feel better you need to have at least some positive activities in your life. Also, people stay depressed because they have at least the usual share of unpleasant activities but not enough pleasant activities. One of the solutions to overcoming depression is to try to schedule more positive and pleasant events in your life; this will help to get the balance between pleasant and unpleasant activities closer to what it is for people who aren’t depressed.

One of your most important jobs in this program is to take the risk of actually testing some of your predictions about what will happen if you try to do something pleasant. Because any experiment can go wrong, we’ll want you to repeat some experiments to see what happens each time. You don’t have to believe that you’ll enjoy the activity; you just have to be willing to try and see what happens. Think of yourself as a scientist who is performing experiments on your moods.

If you’re having some trouble coming up with some activities, here’s a list of some simple activities to get you started:

Going for a walk
Getting dressed up
Meeting someone new
Going to a concert
Having coffee with a friend
Going shopping for myself
Going to the beach
Playing golf
Climbing
Reading sacred books
Going to see a sports event

What pleasant activities do you  enjoy?
