Welcome Binky
An October 5 quit date will give you plenty of time to identify many of the situations that cause you to light up, we call them triggers. If you like you can also begin cutting back on your daily cigarette intake before the Oct 5 date. I started cutting back about 3 weeks before Q day. I selected various triggers to work on such as, not lightning up when I routinely did when I would be walking into work from my car or having that cig in the car on my way home. I used to smoke about a pack a day and cut down to 4 cigs per day before Q day and then used the patch.
I can see that but I would hope that the withdrawals would be minor because you start at 25 mg for some weeks, then 14 mg for some weeks, then 7 mg for two weeks I thought.
Do you think if you just used a 7 mg for a short while say several hours a day putting it on and leaving it on for an hour or so and then taking it off might that help get you off the withdrawals? That method worked for me.
Can someone describe how much lung damage a person has after smoking for twenty to thirty years? And when a persong does quit smoking does some or all of the damage lung get repaired? I heard somewhere that your risk of getting lung cancer is like that of a non-smoker after five years of quit, is this right?

Angel
I am so, so very sorry to hear about your son's accident. I pray for you and your son. It sounds though that you are in control, good!
And you are right, it can be so, so trying when things just go south on us.
We just want to reach for THAT crutch, that flaming thing that keeps telling us that it is going to make it all better, all so much very better. Yes it will make everything right. No it wont.
Angel we know better. We still are going to get up tomorrow and have to face tomorrows obstacles. Lightning up now, an hour from now or tomorrow morning is only going to cause us more pain, knowing that we let ourselves down, really down. It just adds to the heartaches that we have to face.
So let's do the right thing for you, Angel. Let' not have that smoke; instead let's get in touch with our inner self. Get your mind to control your thoughts. Breath deep, relax and talk to your self. Tell Angel, yes I am strong and yes smoking wont change this situation or any other situation. Bless you, you are one very strong person, yes you are Angel.

Not terrible difficult. I would call in pretty tempting though. Preparation, cutting way back some two weeks before quit day, use of the patch, fortitude, attitude, self talk and other trigger fighters made it possible. I did not have the support of this site when I quit as I did not know of its existence. All in all, place the proper trigger fighting tools in your tool box, and you will have it your way. The way you perceive your quit is the way you are going to feel about it. Just stay positive, use distraction and the job gets done. Then you can move on to your next divide and conquer situation.
