Hi Everyone

MistyMoon: Welcome!!! Sounds like we have alot in common. I am also a recovering 3 pack a day smoker for 34 years. I have five children between 24 yoa and 10 yoa. I have a stressful job and a slew of excuses why I should smoke---but, I am determined to make this quit work. My husband is quitting with me as well. Stay close and stay strong! :)

going to concert tonight

Steely Dan? I remember!! Drugs, sex, rock-and-roll! I saw them in concert in 1977 in Munich, Germany! I think...I was smoking a little more than cigarettes then.....................now I'm a cop..............life is funny! :)

How Day 1 went...

Tina- Congrats on day one!!! I am so proud of you!!! I have several teens and my son said something similar to me and then I slipped. I have felt so guilty since because I allowed him to feel as though it was his fault (you didn't expect ME to accept responsibility did ya?) Anyway, I am proud that you survived and the kids are still alive!!! What an accomplishment. At the worst, bury them deep in concrete--kids, husband, whatever...lol. What kind of ice cream did he bring you? Craving...Neopolitan, not nicotine (at the moment).

Which Town Are You Doing Your Quit-(and Thanks, all of You)

Wow!!! I really like this discussion. I am impressed at all the different locations. I find it especially beneficial since I am currently unable to participat in IM at present. As for me, started smoking as a youth in Augsburg, Germany 34 years ago and am now quiting in a town just outside of Nashville, Tennessee. I won't post my quit meter since it SHOULD be 53 days, but is really only 3 days since my slip and I just can't being myself to change it.

Back on the Wagon

SUPER!!!! I went through the same thing earlier this week. Since then I have thought "That was easy---let me do it again." But have been really, really good. The one thing I remember most about that slip was I woke up the next morning feeling like I stunk and like I had eaten a *#@%burger the night before! I'm so proud of you for coming back!

New here and I think I can!!

Okay, Okay....everyone here knows I had a slip and my meter should read only 4 days. I just can't seem to reset it, but I'm keeping a mental note. New here and I think I can!!

Congrats on your decision to quit. Reading the posts here have been so helpful for me. My husband and I quit May 23 and he is having a much easier time with it than I also. He keeps himself distracted and does NOT want to talk about it, while I do. BTW, Circuit, you mention working for the courts and everyone around you smokes. I work for our police department as a detective and everyone I work with smokes as well. Most my co-workers are not very supportive, but I think it's because I work Internal Affairs---Whaddayathink? Handling Emotions without Smoking

BF------------ I do hope the best for you and your family. This quitting sure as hell ain't easy! It effects every aspect of your life, I know. If I joke to much, please put me in my place. I just sometimes turn to humor to mask the insecurities! After 34 years of smoking, it has not been easy for me. For so long I denied the damage being done. I was so active until a year ago..........now I walk a mile at noon and dusk and come in out of breath........a few years ago I could run 2 miles and smoke a cig right afterward without a prob. I have COPD at 46 years of age. I still have a 10 year old at home. I am trying my hardest to be positive about all of this. If there is one thing I would like to convey to our youth............DON"T SMOKE---EVER!!! :)
