The adventure is now 30 days and counting........

Well ya'll are just fantastic...that is all there is too it! So help me, I believe... with all my being... that I am a 30 day non-smoker because of SSC and the many members who are here to support one another through quitting smoking. I give myself a mental pinch to see if I'm really awake and that it really has been 30 days. There is something very VERY different about this quit than with the others. I've read so many of the posts from different members about their quits, something they read and wanted to share with everyone, differences of opinion, how they are feeling at any given moment....and on and on. What seems to stand out about my successful 30 days, is that I expect success this time. I'm not 'quitting smoking' (in the process of) ...I *quit* (STOPPED!) smoking. There is more a mental finality to this quit. So...mental attitude is truly one of the keys toward a successful quit. Another step I took, that seemed a waste of time in previous quits, was to PREPARE for my quit. Weeks before quitting, I made certain areas of the house off limits for smoking. I'd go to another area or outside to smoke. This interrupted the brain from associating the Master Bed/Bath with smoking. I set up a room in the house where I could find quiet and calm where I knew I would need to go when I was feeling overwhelmed. I surrounded myself with different scents from candles & room freshners so that my olfactory senses are awash with ANYTHING BUT Cigarette Smoke!!!! Most important, I talk positively to myself constantly. I tell myself how wonderful it is NOT to smell like a walking chimney of cigarette smoke. I revel in being able to smell EVERYTHING! I can walk forever now without being winded. My sinuses are clearing up, my breath is sweet. I imagine my every move as that of a non-smoker. I paint a mental picture of me doing everyday tasks, as a total non-smoker and then live completely immersed in the thought that I AM a non-smoker! To those who have been here before me...Here I come. To Those who come behind me...You CAN do this!!!! Hugs to all and many thanks...I look forward to 60 days, and then 90 days and then.... well you get the idea! Lo-Carb diet-5 lbs down!

Rissa, I am very happy for you and anyone who finds a method for loosing weight that is successful for them. Weight and Cigarettes...the constant fight of my life!!! However, I have to agree with Jose on this 100%. What works for one person may not work for another...just like with the Cigarettes...what works for you, may not work for me.... in fact; I'm living proof that the many diets out there...just didn't work for My system, My lifestyle. I LOVE cheesecake. I Adore Spagetti, Lasagne, Chicken Fried Steak, (thats the southern blood in me,) and a good rack of BBQ'd pork ribs! And, anyone who happens to get between me and a good Mexican Food dish....might very well get hurt as I RUN to the feeding trough! I had to find a way to make it possible for me to consume these kinds of things and still loose weight. Unlike Cigarettes, where total cessation is necessary to break the habit and the caustic effects on the body, I still HAD to eat...everyday, and several times a day. When I quit smoking, I also had to make some new adjustments because my metabolisim was about to change bigtime with nicotine and the HUNDREDS of other chemicals no long in my system. The end result is I feel FANTASTIC. What worked for me, won't necessarily work for anyone else. But I, along with many other's here, are up front and willing to share what did work for us, just in case there is just ONE other person who can use what I did to make their quit and weight issues become a positive aspect of their lives as well! If 'dieting' works for you, and you find success in reaching your goal with a certain method, more power to ya! Success is success. However, I would also measure the long term physical costs of any restrictive diet. Congrats to everyone!!! A litte bit about me

Krimson, Yes, you CAN do this! It is true what everyone is telling you...it's never too late! I've smoked since age 14, I'm months away from hitting the big 5 0. I also have a family history of easy weight gain... Fumes from the local bakery, if ingested by mouth or nose, can cause me to gain weight!!! I have lost 65Lbs in the past 1year 3 months. Quitting smoking scared the )(*&^(*&^% outta me because of the common problem so many smokers have with gaining weight. I did not, DO NOT, want cigarettes to take that success away from me. Since that was/IS a huge issue for me, I concentrated a great deal of energy into PREPARING for that specific part of my quit. EVERY person's quit is different. Why? Because there are issues about smoking which are important to me, yet Jane Blacklung could care less about. Focus on and make a list of all the things that come into your mind about what you fear may happen when you quit smoking...then prepare for those specific fears to meet them head on. Oh and I'm 31 days quit....and have lost 2 pounds! Interestingly, for me, (remember, everyone's quit is different,) I have LOADS more energy now that I've quit smoking which makes loosing the weight and keeping it off SO much easier. Hang in there! You can CAN can do this!!!
