Why Me?

Hi members,

There is a common thread in all your post, and that is a traumatic child event and parents that were dealing with addiction, anxiety or unsupportive. Childhood is a brief, but very powerful time in our lives. It is the time when many of our belief systems about the world and ourselves are established. Unfortunately , if they are negative, wedon't have the skills as children to overcome them.

All your very inspiring post have shown that as adults we can overcome and challenge these negative core belief systems. You can shed your old skin, and emerge as a confident and panic free individual.

Keep sharing your stories members, we love hearing them!

Why Me?

Hi members,

Juanita, I enjoyed your visual of taking the negative core beliefs and breaking them until they shatter. Seeing the words and watching them shatter is a powerful. Watch them shatter into so many pieces, its impossible to put them back together, so they can never exist in your mind and heart ever again.

Davit, its really positive that you're able to accept the feeling, not fighting it and let it go. Especially , for not punishing yourself for things you did years ago to survive financially.

Members, are there events or things you've done in your past that you've punished yourself for?

Rebuilding Your Self Esteem

Hi Members,

Great discussion you've started!

You've all mentioned that you were looking to someone in your life to support you or commend you on all the hard work you had done. These people were unable to give you support that you needed. However, the positive side of this , is that you were able to realize they were not able to give you support you need and you stop looking to them for support.

As a couple of you have mentioned, it hard for people to adjust to the new and assertive person you're becoming. People are use to interacting and thinking about you in a certain way, so it may take time to adjust.

Members, what feelings or thoughts did you have after ending a relationship that was not supportive or destructive to your self esteem?

SAD has returned

Hi Wrestler,

Glad to hear you had a better day. Exercise is an important part to recovering. When we exercise,  our brain releases chemicals called endorphins. Endorphins make us feel good all over, and they are naturally released when we get sunlight. So with the lack of sunlight in the winter, exercising becomes that much more important. So keep it up, and you'll definetly feel the benefits.

As Teebs mention, try the challenge worksheets. In section one, you will find Anxious thoughts form and in section 2, an advanced anxious thought form. When you do have a flare up of anxiety, don't avoid the negative thought. Write it down and challenge it. This will help to reverse, and break down these negative thinking patterns.

What are some of the fears you have about getting a blood test?

The food and mood connection

 Hi Members,

I wanted to share an article I recently read called. “The food and mood connection.” The article discussed how the food we consume affects our mood. The authors state that food rich in Omega-3 fatty acids, B vitamins, low glycemic foods, and chocolate have all been associated with improved moods. In addition, the authors note “Combining food such as carbohydrates and protein increases the level of serotonin in your brain.” (Nelson and Zeratsky, 2009). Serotonin is a neurotransmitter in your brain, which are chemicals released in your brain and it is associated with calm moods.

The article is talking about a connection between the body and mind. Though the two were once regarded as independent from each other in the medical community, many people believe that two are interdependent. If we consume foods that are good for us, we experience positive physical effects. If we feel physically well, we are better able to deal with challenges. A healthy body leads to a healthy mind and vise versa.

Members, what are your thoughts on the body-mind connection?

Myth or Fact?

Myth: Only major symptoms of stress require attention.

Fact: This myth assumes that the "minor" symptoms, such as headaches or stomach acid, may be safely ignored. Minor symptoms of stress are the early warnings that your life is getting out of hand and that you need to do a better job of managing stress.
