Nervous in the Mornings

Hi atedge,   Thank you for sharing your story.   Although the fracture may have felt like a setback, you seem to be taking the right steps to coping by speaking to a therapist. And you are right, it will take a few appointments to become comfortable with your therapist and figure out each other's styles.   How have you found step 1 of the program? It can be overwhelming when you first get started but continue to post and keep us updated on how you are doing!     Sarah, Health Educator

Lousy Day

atedge,   It sounds like you are experiencing some emotions that you have not felt before. You also mentioned that exercising has helped you in the past. Although you are injured, is it possible to exercise in other ways such as walking or even doing stretches that will help you manage these emotions?   Thanks for the tips for CM as well! I'm sure other members will find them helpful as well.     Sarah, Health Educator

Forcing a face of the PA

atedge,   Congratulations on quitting smoking!   You mentioned that smoking had a calming effect for you. Have you considered other relaxation activities that you could enjoy to help you cope? Perhaps yoga or other deep breathing techniques could help you relax?    Members, any other advice for atedge on what has helped you relax in the past?     Sarah, Health Educator

hello having alot of trouble

Hi nikki, Thank you for sharing your story and support with us. There are many people within this support group that share the same questions and concerns as you.  We are all a group of individuals who support each other.

If you look to the left of the screen under "TOOLS" you will find many supportive tests.  These tests are not diagnostic tools and are not a replacement or substitute for a physician's advice. The purpose of these tests is to prepare you with information that you can present to your physician. When you're finished the test, you can either print your Final Report or email it directly to your doctor.

We also have developed a Panic Program.  This program is 12-weeks and involves the tools mentioned above.  Each session is based on the previous session, so we strongly advise that you work slowly through the program and not jump ahead.

These tests may or may not be for you but they are "free".  If you have any question or concerns with our “TOOLS”, you can contact us at support@paniccenter.net.  We are the Support Specialist for The Panic Center and are open to any questions or concerns you may have.

Nikki, please consider going to speak to a doctor about your experience. Check your local community centres or phone book as there are often community offices with doctors available to see patients that do not have insurance. Taking medication that has not been prescribed to you can be very dangerous. If you able to see a doctor, they can discuss the medication with you, possible side effects, and also offer any other advice on what you are going through.   If you are considering going on disability, speaking to a social worker or therapist could also help you navigate the system and decide if this is the right choice for you.   Please continue to post and let us know how you are doing. We are here for you!     Sarah, Health Educator

Forcing a face of the PA

atedge,   Changing jobs can be stressful but it sounds like you have a real handle on your situation.   Our new CBT Web-Based Instant Messenger is much more user friendly, and does not require you to install any programs on your computer, so it will be even easier to chat with other members.

To help out, we’ve outlined the steps to use the new CBT Web-Based Instant Messenger:

How to Log Into the new CBT Web-Based Instant Messenger:
1.       Log into the PC.
2.       Go to the PC Support Group home page.
3.       Click the word Launch beside the sentence The new and
         improved CBT Buddies Instant Messenger
4.       Voila! You are logged in and ready to chat with other PC
         members who are online.

Note: Some members will need to disable their pop-up blocker and set their security settings to the default level in order for the SSC IM to function properly.

How to Add Members:
1.       Log into the PC.
2.       Launch the CBT Buddies Instant Messenger.
3.       Click Add New Contact at the top of the screen.
4.       A screen will pop up. Insert the nickname of the Buddy
(their nickname is the name that they use in the Support Group) that you want to add to your contact list and click “Add”.
5.       You can now begin chatting with your Buddy

If you have any questions or comments, or if you receive any errors, please contact us by clicking the Feedback button at the bottom of the page.   I should also mention that we do not allow the posting of URL’s or information about products. In some cases we allow the posting of URL’s, but only if the URL links to a not-for-profit organization or news article. If we did allow people to post URL’s or links to sites that market products the Panic Group would be inundated with spam. Our goal is to help people cope with their anxiety, and we do not promote other products or services   Let us know how it goes!     Sarah, Health Educator

Fear of getting help

canscrapbook,   You have received some great advice from other jhori. It can be incredibly difficult to challenge yourself and your anxious thoughts. The following ten questions will help you to challenge any anxious thoughts. When you have an anxious thought, answer some of these 10 questions:

1. Is it "true"?
2. How do I know it’s true?
3. Is it 100% true? (remember something that is 75% or 99% true is
    not 100% true)
4. What's the evidence for it being true?
5. What’s the evidence against it being true?
6. Has it ever happened before?
7. What's different now?
8. If it were true, how bad would it really be?
9. What's the worst thing that could happen?
10. If the worst thing happened, how bad would it really be?

It would also be very beneficial for you to make an appointment with your doctor. This would give you the opportunity to describe your experience to him. It is probably quite difficult for him to make suggestions about your situation without talking to you personally.   Keep us posted on how you are doing.       Sarah, Health Educator

citalopram

Lisa,   Starting a new medication takes time. Your body has to adjust to the medication and its side effects. Timing can vary, depending on the dosage and type of medication you are taking.   Your doctor would be able to address these concerns. Have you made any follow-up appointments since you were first prescribed citalopram?   Continue to post Lisa and let us know how you are doing.     Sarah, Health Educator
