Welcome Lynn!

Hi Lynn, Hope you do not mind that I started a new post for you. I just did not want you to get lost in the shuffle. Thanks for posting your concerns with us today. I believe the first step here is to understand why you are thinking the way you do. Are these feelings due to your "body dismorphic disorder" or is it something different? Think about this and then move on to the next question. Take tiny steps Lynn. You have come here for some support and guess what? You are going to get tons! We are positive and supportive and we hope that you will continue to find answers to your questions and concerns. So let's get started!! If you look to the left of the screen under "TOOLS" you will see The Anxiety Test. Over the next day or so please go through the test and see what your results tell you. You can print them out for future reference or e-mail them to your Doctor. There are more "TOOLS" for you to check out Lynn! Please go at your own pace and be sure to let us know if you need any direction. Good luck and we will be looking forward to your response :). Melanie

Welcome Lynn!

Lynn, After reading your post I can say that your are such a nice person!! Nice people always put others before themselves :). This is a great trait to have but your point is, "I'm much more concerned with how my symptoms are affecting my partner and less concerned with how they impact me" I think this is where you should start! Maybe turn this point around to thinking of yourself first. If your partner is aware of your feelings then they should be there for support and to listen. So, for the next day, week or month until you can answer this question. Find yourself! What I mean is "What makes you happy"? and "What makes you unhappy". I hope that I have lead you in a positive direction Lynn. Use our Panic Diary daily to list your concerns and feelings. I wish you all the best and please continue to post your thoughts and concerns. Major Setback

Lester, If you feel that you are going to lose you job due to how you are feeling today, please contact your doctor! He/she can either talk to you with regards to the effects of your medication and can write you a medical letter for a leave of absence. Hope this helps? Melanie

Major Setback

I know you know what I am going to say! Do not mess with your meds! Please call you doctor and tell him/her that you need something to help get you to this class. He or she will make sure that you are taking your meds correctly. Sometimes an increase in medication can create major problems!! Please be careful!! Melanie

driving

Good Evening! To be honest Julianne, I do not know one person who was not afraid of getting behind the wheel. It is all in how we cope with "the anxiety". We have to take baby steps. I remember finally starting to drive on my own after one year. All my friends had their licenses and I felt so far behind. However, once I got the courage to get behind the wheel I did my fair share of being the "DD". So, in the end Julianne it all can work out! It may take days, months and years to get there....but we do eventually get the courage to deal with our anxiety! So hang in there! Don't worry about what others think and do not rush into anything until you are ready! Take care, Melanie

Fear of eating?

Mike, Please do just that....take a nap and then have a shower and eat at your own pace. Quick question: Have you ever thought of seeing a nutritionist? Hang in there! Melanie

REAL bad day!

Lester, Sorry to hear that you are not having a good day today. Try to put your feet up, have a nice hot cup of something and close your eyes. If this does not help then go and take a hot shower. Hope this helps? Keep us posted :) Melanie

Fainting and Panic Attacks

We had an interesting e-mail and thought that it would be best to share it with this support group! Someone one asked the following "I feel like I€™m going to faint when I have a panic attack €“ is this dangerous"? Panic attacks rarely end in people passing out. If this happens to you, you should probably talk to your doctor about your experience to find out if you have two separate problems, a panic problem and a fainting problem. Your doctor will probably want to know in detail what you mean by "pass out". For example: Do you mean that you get really exhausted and fall asleep or do you€™re legs collapse beneath you? Have you ever hurt yourself? Has your fainting ever caught you by surprise so that you have fallen and hurt yourself when you "pass out"? If there is any good news it is that it sounds like you "see it coming" and have time to prepare. Sometimes you see a fear reaction like this in small kids when they get really frightened or overwhelmed by an experience, they get really, really tense, and then they just kind of shut down, but it looks a lot more like falling asleep than fainting away. Adults most often faint when they have a blood/injury/needle kind of phobia. Hopefully somebody in the support group can relate but this kind of problem is pretty rare. The bottom line is that you should discuss this issue in-depth Any comments? Melanie
