Hello! New here

Hi all! I wanted to introduce myself here, since I'll be spending a lot of time with you the next few months, lol. I'm just starting to prepare to think about possibly considering quitting :) I've been reading a few of the threads here - and I get excited about getting to where some of you are right now. It always seems like my delusional addiction convinces me to just wait it out until the circumstances are just right for quitting. As I get older, I've started to realize that circumstances never align themselves to make life easier on you. Hopefully, I'll get a few tips on how to ignore the addict in me and go for it! See you around :) Ciao.

Hello! New here

Hi guys, thanks for your responses. I feel at home already! Wazz- I was just being silly when i composed that line. I'm pretty serious about quitting, because like alohakeia said, it would be a beautiful thing to finally quit - like some of these threads about success stories...it's almost too good to be true!! OK, Buona giornata! Ciao!

One More Time

Hi! As a new quitter, I'm already looking up to you for having stayed quit for 4 months!! So now, if/when a craving hits, you have 4 months worth of freedom from this addiction to look back upon for inspiration to keep going. You know what it's like on the other side - without the smell, without the gasping for air, without yellow teeth...etc...I will pray for you to keep your quit! Ciao! ILoveMyLungs

Day 3 of quit & 5 hour drive ahead...HELP!

I decided on Thursday that I no longer want to be a slave to this addiction - so I started on the patch. It has been tough, of course, but I have 2 full smoke free days behind me and well on my way to a 3rd. But today I have a 5 hour drive, and I'm dreading the cravings that will hit. I'm so used to smoking, windows down, music loud, while driving. I've been reading a few of the other threads but nothing on dealing with 5 hours of non-stop cravings and throwbacks to the smoking days... Any tips/advice on how to survive the day? I'm really scared that I will slip and I don't want to go back to that old habit anymore. Help...please!!

Day 4 of my quit

Hi guys - Just checking in! The only thing keeping me sane is reading these posts and saying ONE PUFF AWAWY FROM A PACK A DAY over and over in my head. And saying it out loud in my car. And yelling it at home. I don't want to go back, I don't want to slip again, I don't want to go through hell week one more time. I'm praying that it sticks this time. The cravings are really annoying, they just pop in and out at times when I would usually smoke. But thank GOD for the posts I read here. Well, I have to get back to work, have to keep busy :) Take care guys/gals!

Checking In And Checking Up

Congratulations on staying quit and thank you for your advice/words of wisdom from the other side! I **LOVE** this quote, I'm writing it on my little paper that I've been looking at every time I get a craving. I'd rather be an ex-smoker with an occasional desire for a cigarette than a current smoker with a constant desire to quit. Take care and keep us up to date every now and then!

sad news

Sue, I'm sorry you've suffered so much in such a short time. My prayers are with Fred's family, you, and everyone else who was affected...he looks like a very nice guy, he has a great smile even in the face of so much pain...I hope you will treasure all the good memories you have of him. Let us know if we can help you in any way....

Walking on broken glass in a pool of sulfuric acid

would be better than this crave....ARGH! I forgot my patches in a town 2 hours away and I've had to do all day without one. It's been brutal. All I can think about is how good a cigarette would taste right now, how relaxing it would be just to sit back and puff away. BUT! I know that if I smoke just that one cigarette to relax me now, then I'll have to start smoking every hour. I'll have to drive on my way to work and stink up my car. I'll constantly be embarassed about smelling like smoke. Having to buy tons of gum to cover up the smell. $4 a day. OK, I'm taking the dog for a walk.... ARGH!
