"don't give a rat's ASH", that's hilarious, Lainey & no kidding, it's a nightmare. It's insult to injury too, when you're paying $1.22/litre & it comes from where you freakin' LIVE!!

Tom, that is absolutely incredible. You have put an amazing amount of imagination and effort into this! Makes we wish I had quit a couple of months earlier.

Jean49, I know the post you mean, it started quite the controversy. That person, in my opinion, needed some tough love & needed to make their choice. If you read it carefully, it was not a request for help or support. It was excuses and junkie talk. The person did not use the past tense in talking about why they had a "good" reason, which says they still felt it was a good reason. The whole tone of that post was defensive and if that person was truly re-committing & asking for support & guidance, it would have read much differently. If we all thought it was OK to do what that person ws trying to defend, there would be no SSC because we would all be smoking.Of course, everyone can & should react according to what they feel in each situation but I will never offer support or encouragement to anyone who is not trying their best or is only looking for affirmation that there was nothing wrong with what they did. The beauty of this site, & the reason it's so helpful to such a diverse bunch of people is that it is a diverse bunch of people, and everyone is free to take what they need.

Laughing, you are a far more generous and patient person than I and I applaud you. Trying does not have to mean only succeeding and I don't feel "on top" of anything at all. I have failed more times than I can count, including once since I've been coming here. The not trying, to me, is in the making excuses and defending an indefensible position. I have not turned my back on anyone and perhaps saying that I would not offer help or support...etc.was a bad choice of words. It seems to me that there's a difference between losing a quit and giving one away & if you can respond the same way in either case & think you should, good for you. I don't. Maybe after I've been quit longer & have more perspective on the whole thing, I'll feel differently. I certainly will not jump into a situation like that one again & should have trusted my first instict to leave it alone for a longtimer to come along.

I had no idea that kind of thing still went on. That is so unfair. I can't believe you employer gets away with that. I remember a long time ago, non-smokers would complain once in awhile about smokers taking breaks, and they were ignored but that was years & years ago.
