Continous craving issue

i stopped on jan 2nd, 2007. Using nicorettes occassionally, but mostly cold turkey. the first 2 weeks i was so pumped about this that i handled it easily. Since then it got harder and the last 2 to 3 weeks, its like i have permanent crave. I am still talking myself out of having one, I'm not in immediate danger of doing so, however my fear is that this constant craving will slowly break down my will. I use only 1 nicorette a day now, so I am almost off this - I work now and again and am in decent shape, have a good diet, and have totally avoided all my strong triggers. however, the last few weeks this constant crave is there, and then its starts negotiating with will, and it becomes quite a heated debate. Right now my will is winning - Im just concerned about the craving getting in a lucky punch. I've read Carr's book early on and it helped them - any other input for this stage of the game thanks My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/2/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 62 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 1,258 Amount Saved: $186 Life Gained: Days: 9 Hrs: 3 Mins: 57 Seconds: 24

Continous craving issue

"tryagain" - I have now been off gum for 2 full days (2mg) - and the continuous crave has subsided - and the peak craves have also not come - I know its only 2 days and I am expecting one to hit me any time - but its not as bad i thought it would be. I'm not suggesting you try this because I know what the gum directions are and if you are comfortable - stick with what you are doing. Its funny but its almost like a 2nd quit - easier of course but rewarding in a way. Could be psychological - but these are the best 2 days I've had in a long time - could be all the posts everyone has put up brainwashing me about nicotine - whatever it is - thanks to all of you - last 2 days were better and "tryagain" dont worry about when you have to go off the gum - its a lot easier than day 1 of not smoking. keep it up everyone!! 60 Days! I'm going to Vegas

please be aware in Vegas - its a hard town to not smoke in - I started once after a long break of non smoking in Vegas. Pls be careful. There something about the sites and sounds of those casinos that make you want to drink smoke and everything else - they do have non smoking tables if u gamble - that could help somewhat good luck My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/2/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 64 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 1,298 Amount Saved: $192 Life Gained: Days: 9 Hrs: 11 Mins: 12 Seconds: 1

Continous craving issue

I've thouht about exactly what you said which is why I down from 5 to 7 nicorettes per day to 1. And I usually need this one between 2 and 3:30 pm after lunch and the afternoon becomes stressful. I am going to rid myslef of this too and just hang in for a few days - i believe it takes only a day or 2 for the body to rid iteself of nic. thanks for the input - it all helps My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/2/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 63 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 1,261 Amount Saved: $189 Life Gained: Days: 9 Hrs: 4 Mins: 34 Seconds: 7

Nicorette Gum question

My question is the same as yours - although the nicorette booklet tells us to stay on for 12 full week, I never felt that I needed any where near the doses they were recommending nor for as long - I am on day 63 now and have been coping with 1 nicorette a day for about a week. Tomorrow I intend to try and get of that completely. But to someones point on this board, these NRTs are there to be just that - replacement- and if taking an extra NRT means not have that cigarette, then it has worked. My current struggle is that I have had a continous crave now for 3 to 4 weeks that is engaging me into debates with myself. The first week was easier - thats unique. Good luck all and good luck - the encouraging thing is for those that seem to be on the fence, we are strong and not smoking - just discussing it My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/2/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 63 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 1,261 Amount Saved: $189 Life Gained: Days: 9 Hrs: 4 Mins: 35 Seconds: 22

Continous craving issue

Thanks all for the input - it really helped. When I first saw these msg boards, I was skeptical about the impact it could have - but you guys have helped tremendously. Its now 9pm on Tuesday the 6th and I have not had a nicorette since yesterday at 3pm. As some of you have pointed out, I think thats been part of my problem - time to rid myself of nicotine completely. Thanks again for all your advice and words of encouragement. good (one of my) rationalizaiton theories

One of my biggest deterents in not smoking is the healh issues. I am 40 and have seen people I know diagnosed with different ailments/diseases regardless of age ad lifestyle.( Anything can happen - even to healthy balance people). But as we all know the likelihoods of smokers pickingup ailments/diseases increases exponentially - therefore (hate to state the obvious) as smokers we are at much greater risk of almost every sickness/disease/cancer out there. This brings us to the detering factor of all this - however, just knowing this is enough to stop a smoker. its just not powerful enough on its own at an arms length away. Sadly it affects up more if one of these ailments etc affects a direct loved one, but even them is not powerful enough to instigate change in us. ( I am sure there some exceptions to all I'm saying - i am not Oprah or Dr Phil.) How I have internalzied these issues for my self is whenever I am a hospital or docs office for any type of visit or check up, I visualize my self getting the worst possible diagnosis possible due to smoking. And I live with that for a while as I am in the offices waiting for them to come back in and do their thing. I picture days and days of these test and then ultimately be there for hours on end for chemo - I take it through to the point where I hear I dont have long to live to due to smoking- then i have to think through my the life of my wife and 2 kids under 3. That gets to me - that is a powerful series of thoughts that works on me. I know thatjust because I quit 2 months ago, doesnt mean this cant become a reality anyway - But I feel like it now wont - and if for whatever reason it did - i would be at peace with it because I had taken the necessary steps to rid myself of the killer. THink about living in hospitals doing colonoscopies, amd MRI's, scans and lung x-rays. stress test after stress test with cardiologist to repair heart. we all know the dozens of smoking induced diseases we can get - some of you may already have gone through some this. My reason for posting it in so much detail is I find it works when one really goes down a path of what-ifs. What Im saying this is my bigget deterrent for my familys sake. I also take it one step further. I imagine my funeral at the age of 41, hav
