Continous craving issue

I'm using the gum too. I'm following the directions and will take this through the whole 12 weeks before I put down the last piece of gum. It is helping me a lot. I am just (I think) coming out of an expected 30 day struggle of a few days. I am down to 4 or 5 pieces a day. In another couple of weeks, I'll step down from the 4mg to the 2mg, that's not part of the program, but I think it will help. At some point I know that I will have to end NRT completely and I'm ready for the cravings that will happen at that time. I'm not borrowing tomorrow's cravings to spend today. I still have at times a crave that is constant but low level, like a nag, irritating but not totally impossible to get through. Good luck, we are all in this together. Hi JQ, Can I just say that you are doing a FANTASTIC JOB! Congratulations on those 63 Days. Everyone knows that the first 2 weeks are hell, but after that it takes quite a few weeks to really start to feel comfortable as an ex-smoker. So my first point is Patience - it won't always be like this. We have all been there, and this is the tough ground work for the joy and elation of the freedom later on. That's why it is so important to reward yourself and keept going with your self-talk. As Katy says, don't for a minute give the addiction any thoughts. Kill them! Secondly, you will almost certainly feel more comfortable if you manage to get the nicotene out of your system completely. At the moment, you are kind of teasing your body. You will probably feel it at your 'trigger time' for the first couple of days, but not notice it after that. Distraction, distraction, distraction. Thirdly, it's really worth working on your self-talk. Read and re-read Allen Carr (I thought he was great too!) to keep your motivation going. Remember how you do not want to go through this again ever!! Lastly, work on your reward plan. You need something to really look forward to. You are saving loads of money by not smoking - it's time to spend that on YOU. I bought myself a lap-top in week 17, and later a new stereo, trainers etc. Spend time making plans and looking forward. You want some small and regular planned rewards, maybe pampering treatments, and maybe something big for in a years time - a holiday maybe. Whatever you really want. You are doing great, and yes it does get better! JQ....I just know that ole nic hangs in there....even after he has been beaten pretty badly....he hangs....just looking for any opportunity....for quite some time you need to be ready with "plans" that you can throw into operation when he puts pressure on. and please be exceedingly PROUD of the fact that you are staying in control.....make sure you associate your rewards with the fact that YOU are winning! JQ.....the excitement of the initial battle is over, you won that...now the junky has to try the underhanded things that just might get you to let him have the control again. I think you need to realize that there is NO negotiating or dealing with this addiction. You must stop with letting it put it's so called "reasoning" in your head. Once there it twists and turns and keeps you "thinking" on the fact that you aren't smoking and how that is somehow "denying" yourself or "missing out" on something. Just one that junky reasons....just one now and again....won't hurt a thing...will take away this constant nagging feeling.... be advised right here and now that these "reasons" are lies! You need to step up your distract tactics and stop this junky dead in his tracks when he starts. Sometimes just our "will" all by itself isn't enough....we need "plans" to strengthen it. when the junky shows up, get a move on. Don't be baited into a reasoning match with him. Shut him down, kick him out and move on. It will require effort and planning at first....with time it will become easier to turn him off and shut him out. Each person will take "running naked" differently. Some will be terrified, and with the terror some will have cravings and perhaps "think" they are going to mess up....maybe this person is better off just doing a bit more of the weaning business??....you need to be able to relax and BELIEVE that you can do it easily...it's just another 'step' in your journey to freedom...and we all take these steps at a different pace. and then there are others that will be so excited that runnin naked will be a cool breeze (no pun intended ;) ) Leaving NRT will see them whooping, jumping for joy and whizzing right on down the road as they dodge the pot holes.
