Day 5 -Trying to change my mindset about smoking

Oh STELLA !!! I am SOOOOO proud of you !!!!! You have got to give yourself daily rewards --- think of some little ones that you can give yourself everyday. In fact reward yourself everytime you make it past an episode of killer craving -- why not , after all it's those little stepps - and one kay at a time might be looking too far away - some people may need an instant gratififier immediately after they've won the fight of a crave, and at the end of the day could be counted as winning a battle !! Winning the war just would follow along, eh? Yeah well watch for my posts next Saturday when I'm in the middle of my first quit day, or 2nd or 3rd ....... You should be so proud of yourself & I know your kids are so proud of you too

Today is my quit day !

Halleluia !! Making it thru my first day with some very minor moments of trouble. This morning was the toughest with the paper & coffee - I thought it would be, so I was ready, I guess. I did alot of getting up when I would look down to where my smokes usually are - it made me smile a little as I told myself 'Oh god, self, you're doing it'-- & went quickly on to interest in something else. My sons are with me now too so that makes it alot easier -- I told them that today is my quit day & they said 'good mom - that's good' I know that they are thinking that I may not be able to do it & I know that they want me to so bad. I'm really trying - & I'm feeling pretty positive- so far so good. I really enjoy & USE reading all of your comments out there. Your stories really help me keep the faith -- thank you all very much for being there. SO ------------ today was Day 1 of the rest of my life --

I'm gonna do the same thing that 'gonnadoit''s gonna do !! Great idea -- cuz I think it would be great to just be able to pull that story out of my REAL glovebox of the car. or put a copy by the phone --places where I know that I'm going to crave a smoke ---- thanks bud !!! I admire you & the inspiring example you set, & your stories - you're something else. You are such a natural motivator -- thanx, teach !

Do you feel like you are missing something?

Yes !!!! I DO feel like I'm missing alot. So after reading some of the posts I feel better. Guess I just have to get more active & steer myself away quicker instead of thinking that this is so hard to do & getting mad at myself for ever starting up -- DARN IT -- I get so frustrated ! Days 3 & 4 have made me nuts

Been coughing alittle the past 2 days -- loose stuff - could that be tar & nicotine ? Oh jeez -I'm so over it - I want a cig sooooo bad - especially in the a.m. with coffee & at nite. I'm dealing with the daytime craves by moving myself - I just get up & move & look around to see what I can do. I always find something, but many times it's food -- trail mix everyday & today I ate a whole lg. can of chicken with mayo on triscuits. I need to get some sucky candies. Yesterday I got my teeth cleaned & that really helped for most of the day -- but gads did I want to smoke last nite !!!!! Thanks for being out there -- your notes are really helping alot ~ ! Help I slipped

I so admire you for gettting back on the wagon !! I wish I could. When I slipped, I gave up & ... fell through the ice ?? Now I have to start all over. I feel awful -- like I broke my promise to quit. Like I'm a weakling. I set a new quit date for this Friday -- this week I have some medical procedures to get done - Friday will be the last one & it's getting my upper teeth pulled & getting tooth implants with snaps for a new upper plateof beautiful white teeth. I hope that proves to be an extra motivator for me. I went 6 days without a cigerette & then was to down on myself to post. I feel dirty & stinky again - but the worst feeling is that of letting myself down & giving that awful control back to those packs of poison ! I'll be back with all of you who are so strong & ..... helpful -- I'll remember that when I feel weak, I'll post first! I know that I can do it. I'll be back. Blew my quit!!!

Shaila, I,ve just finished reading all of the responses to your 'blowing your quit' -- well, I blew mine too. I've set a new quit date for this Friday. I know how you feel. I feel awful about falling off the wagon too. We've got our reasons ( excuses ! ) but it's like soneone else said - the fact that we're posting about it , says that we haven't lost site of our goal yet - & what soneone else said - we're fricking addicts !!!!!! I hate that & i can tell that you do too. I feel like such a weakling, but after reading all the responses to your post I already feel stronger & not quite so bad about myself. We'll do it again. And next time we'll have learned better to cope & feel that much stronger to NOT let those poison sticks rule our otherwise healthy lives. We have to keep reminding ourselves how much better we'll feel about ourselves when we DO CONQUER this !!! Reward ourselves more? Fight the urges with rewarding activities at the weak times ?? Like everyone says - the urges really do pass rather quickly -- I quit for 6 days & felt good & proud - but I guess I let pressures, whatever , get to me. Let's DO IT AGAIN !!! We CAN DO IT !!! Right ?? And WE WILL.
