Shevie, Yeah, you and me both my friend! :) It's the same guy. He's still not my favorite person in the world for obvious reasons, but I think EVERYONE should quit using tobacco, so I'm certainly not going to stand in his way, and if he needs my help, I will try to help him. He has calmed down since those early days of my quit. True, there was no call for the things he did to me, and it was downright cruel as a matter of fact, but I'm a forgiving person for the most part. One less tobacco user in the world, and one less person for me to have to watch still dipping tobacco every day. How have you been holding up my friend? I see posts from you scattered throughout the forum as usual. Take care! I wanted to let everyone know, in case anyone has been following the story, that my manager at work quit chewing tobacco on January 1st, 2006! He now has 10 days in his quit, and all seems to be going well. I'm quite proud of him for taking that step. He's not real big on computer forums so I haven't been able to talk him into joining us here, but, I did want to share his success with everyone. I'll keep you all posted. :) Any other takers out there reading this forum who want to be free again? Come join us! We'll be happy to help you in any way we can, to be successful in your quit. Treadmills, Are They Good Or Evil?

Hi redrosie. I enjoyed your post. Very entertaining! :) I agree with the above comments regarding treadmills and walking. I personally think they are excellent. Walking is one of the best kinds of exercise you can do, because it is low impact (easier on the knees), and yet quite effective. I have a NordicTrack Walk-Fit, and try to use it every day. I have lost around 6 to 8 pounds over the last couple of months doing nothing more than walking an extra 1-1/2 to 3 miles per day on the Walk-Fit, and being a little careful with the diet. Good luck! Thank you, butterfly swimmer. Glad you've decided to stick around and just limit your posting. ;) I understand how it is. Last year when work was in full swing, I was working 9-1/2 to 10 hour days, six days per week. That doesn't leave much time for anything else. I guess we have to make a living though! I know there are people out there who work even more than that, and somehow, I guess they handle it, but I'm not sure how. I hope everything continues going well with your quit and college! Becoming a teacher sounds like an excellent goal. :) Infinite My Milage: My Quit Date: 5/21/2005 Smoke-Free Days: 276 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 5,796 Amount Saved: $303.6 Life Gained: Days: 35 Hrs: 16 Mins: 33 Seconds: 36

Time to bow out

Butterfly Swimmer, I only wish I had the chance to get to know you better, and now you're leaving. :( Oh well, it's my fault, because I'm already in the boat you're in now...not a whole heck of a lot of free time. I've also recently started some community college courses in pursuit of a career change / safety net. Anyway, I wish you the best of luck! I'm sure you won't forget where to find us if you need us. :) Infinite_D My Milage: My Quit Date: 5/21/2005 Smoke-Free Days: 269 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 5,660 Amount Saved: $295.9 Life Gained: Days: 34 Hrs: 20 Mins: 23 Seconds: 34

I can't do this

Tom, I'm sorry to hear about your relationship trouble. True, this is very bad timing for a new quitter. If you're just not ready yet, I understand that, but don't give up all together! You may need to regroup, but do come back and give it another try. Eventually in my quit, I came to the realisation that tobacco did nothing to change the outcome of any problems, and it did not make any bad situations better. Thanks, butterfly swimmer. I know there are others who actually check this forum as well, I was mostly just kidding. :) Penitent came on just to kick Shevie's name off the board and get a change of scenery, which I think is funny, but anyway... That's excellent that your friends at church were able to give up dipping tobacco! I'm impressed that they only had rough sailing for the first 12 days. I don't remember exactly what it was for me, but I recall needing my "pacifier", (a.k.a. herbal replacement and NRT) for about the first 3 months of my quit. But, it's different for everyone. Keep on keepin' on! Well, at least others are paying attention to this thread. ;) Thanks for the tip, Shevie! Interesting how sunflower seed stock has increased in value. In light of my recent conversion to sunflower seed connoisseur, if there are many more out there like my manager and myself, I can see how this would be the case! ;) Anyway, in response to your previous question, whether it was rhetorical or not, yes the Bullmastiff breed is more of a guard dog than an agility dog, although I have seen them in shows. I think it must have been the type of shows where the dogs just strut their stuff around a large oval and the judges decide who they think looks the best and is the most well mannered. :) There was a time when I was working nights, and I didn't want my wife home alone. That's when I made the decision to buy our Bully, her name is Birkita, which means "Strength". She's about 125 pounds, and looks more intimidating than she is. Most people are afraid of her at first, but she's just a big oaf. :) Anyway, if I remember correctly from the research I did before we bought her, (which was from a licensed breeder in Canada), Bullmastiff's were originally bred to guard large estates in England. Since, at the time, we were living on a few acres of land, I figured that this type of dog might be a good fit. Of course, we keep her in at night. And, for those who are wondering - yes, my manager has kept up with his quit. I'm SO proud of him, he's doing it! He has kept his motivation and refused to give in, even when the going has gotten rough a few times. He is staying the course.
