I am so very sorry to hear about your loss.
My heart goes out to you and Peter's family.
It truly fortifies our will to stay quit doesn't it?

So many people see me as a weakling, as a loser. But i want to win this for me. I want to feel good, to love myself, to be proud of myself and to be here to see me and my children grow. i want to look in the mirror and see me again.
WRONG Xena!
ONE person TRIED to make you think that.
You have already proved him wrong.
Welcome back.
Tell yourself each and every day right now when you get up that you DON'T SMOKE....no matter how hard the cravings are.
How do you manage the edginess the craves the yawning emptiness of want? You just gut it out while knowing it will eventually be over.
Xena, cravings are just feelings. They can be lived through. They won't kill you. I promise they won't. The early days are desperate days (or were to some of us). I'm sorry that can't be helped. (listen to Lamplighter)
But I will tell this at the same time, each and every day you get behind you gives you a little more confidence and strength and hope. Build on that. Ride out these early days, Xena. Come here and cry and moan and let these good people hold your hand and help pull you to the other side.
You can do it, sweetie.
You ARE strong. Don't doubt that.
hugs
Melanie

Alright, Xena!
You're doing it. I'm so glad to see you.
Happy Thanksgiving.
Yes it is normal to be tired. I slept ALOT for the first couple of weeks. Meaning it is serious business and the concentration can wear you out. It's ok though. It's a good tired.
Be easy on yourself. Don't forget that ice water.
And Just Don't Smoke. You're going to make it.
Congratulations on 3 days, Xena. It's good to see you this far along.
hugs,
Melanie

Hi Lindak,
I made it back to my pre-quit weight. I probably gained all total 10-12 lbs. during the first year. I have always been tall and thin...5'7", 120(ish) but obesity runs in my family. I was scared to death of gaining weight especially since I'm a middle aged woman.
I tried very hard during my quit not to overeat. The weight came on anyway. I can tell you this, 9 months is a wonderful long time to be quit smoking but it's probably not long enough for your body to be finished with it's 'new self'.....meaning, depending on how old you are, the changes/adjustments to your new 'system' are still taking place and you may have to wait a little longer for all you're doing to be successful. It did me. Probably somewhere in my 3rd year. But then I'm probably alot older than you are.
I am very active like you. I only go to the gym 3 days a week though.I have been told (hearsay only but I've heard it many times) that you need a day in between lifting weights for your muscles to properly build up (or something like that). I walk, swim and dance every chance I get. I have a very healthy diet without it being drab at all. I eat alot of fish, vegetables and fruit.
Don't give up hope, Lindak. Just keep trying to contain the weight gain and give it a little more time. Remember smoking took a toll on our bodies.
My best to you. Congrats on 9 months!
Melanie
