Paxil

Hi. I am new to the group. I have never posted and feel a bit odd doing so as I really don't know what to say or how I fit in. Having said that, I do have a question I was wondering if anyone could answer for me. I recently started taking Paxil and was told by my Dr that it would kick in in 2-3 days. I had been on Zoloft about 10 years ago and remember them telling me at that time it took a couple weeks to feel any effects from the drug. Also, when I filled the prescription, the pharmacist mentioned it would take about two weeks to start working. However, when I told him what the Dr said, he just back pedeled and said, "Oh, well, listen to your doctor, he probably knows more about it than I do." Anyway, that was all kind of a side note but to try to get a clear answer on the subject I googled "Paxil" today and got pages upon pages of results regarding lawsuits. Does anyone have experience with Paxil (or SSRIs in general) that would be willing to share? Thanks! Jane

I feel okay

Today is day one. Yay me! I'm four and one half hours into the day w/o a cigarette and although my mind and body keep telling me I am craving a cigarette, I don't really feel tempted to smoke. I believe I am ready to be successful. I think my challenge is to remember that is what I believe. This site is a blessing! I feel okay

Thank you, thank you, thank you to everyone! How great it is to read encouraging messages from people. I haven't told anyone except my kids that I was planning on quitting with the exception of one person who rolled her eyes at me. It was then I decided to keep it to myself until I have some time under my belt. Thank you all for your positive words and encouragment! I made it all day!!! hehe. So so happy, I am! I feel okay

Wow! Thanks to everyone! I can't believe how many people posted! I feel very tense today. My chest is tight and I'm feeling it difficult to breathe. Anxiety, I think. I also have this weird kind of dizziness going on. Something like it feels to be almost drunk. Also, I didn't sleep well at all last night. I think I woke up every 20 minutes or so until around 4:30 when I finally took something so I could sleep. That was an unpleasant feeling. Today I plan to work out, walk if I need to, read posts on this site, drink lots of water (my throat is also really scratchy), basically say busy and try anything else I may need to do to keep from smoking. I am absolutely confident I won't smoke as long as I stay focused. How long do these feelings last??? I feel okay

Well, I made it through day 2! Again, thank you all so much for the support! Yes, Traci, I am trying it cold turkey this time. I have some back up gum just in case the going gets so tough I can't cope. I figure if I need nicotine so bad I'm willing to smoke, I will give the gum a try first. I'm hoping I can make it w/o though. I can hardly believe I've made it the past two days. lol. I believe if I can make it even one day, I can make it forever. I'm good to go. I will definitely be taking the advice of you all and sticking close to this site. It really is a blessing. I believe it's one of the best tools out there. Certainly, the best I've seen. It's amazing how much support a person can get from total strangers. I am grateful for you all! Thanks again and again and again!!! :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 8/25/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 1 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 30 Amount Saved: $5.85 Life Gained: Days: 0 Hrs: 4 Mins: 13 Seconds: 13

Back again!! Day 1 /3rd time a charm

Hi Doodles. We have the same quit date. I will be watching you and hopefully we can succeed together. Imagine celebrating a year smoke free on the same day next summer and looking back at this post barely believing it. Not a bad visualization if you ask me. Good luck to us both! ;) If we can make it one day we can make it 10 days, 100 days, 1000 days... Hi all!!! new here

Hi Starrider! I, too, am new to the site and on day three w/o a cigarette! Sweet! I read this and thought it made super sense..common sense that I never would have thought of. lol. It's plenty a reason not to have that next cigarette... "smoking does not stop the cravings....20 minutes or so after you smoke, the craving for another one will be back!!!" Good luck! I feel okay

Day three is all but over and still no smoke!!! Yay me!!! I am so proud of myself. And, you know what? I really don't feel too uncomfortable. Of course my poor kids would say I'm a total irritable you know what but hey, they can put up with me for a little while to serve the greater good, right? HAHA. Poor kids. (They're teenagers - they'll live) I'm gonna make it. Sweeeeet! :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 8/25/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 2 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 60 Amount Saved: $11.70 Life Gained: Days: 0 Hrs: 6 Mins: 10 Seconds: 59
