I also hope that you have a wonderful visit with your family! It will be great to see them for 6 weeks! Lucky! The plane ride might be a long one, but pack your nifty travel kit and away you go! As i mentioned earlier the sleep mask is a must have and even one of those travel pillows can really make your experience that much better! If you are going to wear sandals on the plane, I also bring a pair of socks...in case my feet are freezing I through my socks on.. It's all the little things that can make your travelling experience that much better!
I agree, the program has helped me quite a bit too! I learned a lot about panic here! The Support group is great, whether I'm posting or reading other posts.
I have definitely read a lot about your BP fears. I am glad that you are working your exposure to help you overcome this. Work on the elevator thing slowly, we can save the glass elevator for a much later date. How about let's start with trying to go into an elevator and work your way up to going up one floor...two floors...etc..
I like to leave people notes, whether I stick a note in my friends purse for them to find later, or sometimes I will stuff some chocolate into my friends purse. Later I will text her and ask her if she found a surprise in her purse.
I also like to e-mail people randomly and let them know how grateful I am for their presence in my life.
Finally I like to show myself gratitude by rewarding myself when I deserve it and taking care of myself.
Very interesting Samantha! I have found relief from music! Classical music can be really great for certain kinds of stress! I find it definitely helped me focus when I had exams to study for.
One of my biggest stress-relievers is meditating/deep breathing. I am not sure if I do it completely correct but either way it is very effective for me. To do this I lay down in bed or on my couch, usually in the dark, if not at night I will close the shades of my window. Then I close my eyes and I think of a particular mantra for that day, whether it be a word or a phrase. Then I will start to take really deep breaths, focusing on each part of the breath. The inhale and exhale. Once I take a few breaths and then start to say my mantra repeatedly (either out loud softly, or in my head).I do this almost everyday, or if I wake up in the middle of the night and can't get back to bed! Try it out and let me know what you think!
My mom used to do that to, and it really has had a profound impact on me! The little things in life are so very important, my mom leaving me notes has caused me to do the same, and hopefully I will pass on this on to people in my life...and the cycle will continue!
Today I went for a nice long walk in a crowded part of my city. Usually I never go to this part of town because I can't handle it (too many people, weird smells), but there was something I wanted to get and I was able to get out there and get what I needed (i've been working on my exposure therapy). So I am very proud of myself for doing this.
