Hello from Me

Hi I have started the programme today. I have heard that CBT is very succesful with Anxiety type disorders and that doing them online has showed some early promise - so I have decided to give it ago. I am 26 from Southern England, and have been struggling with panic of varying degrees for about a year.

Sometimes Panic, othertimes no Panic.

I am finding it a little confusing setting exposure goals. Sometimes I have panic in a situation when others days I might be fine in exactly the same situation. For example I want to set a goal as going to the local shopping mall, with little or no panic. But the trouble is sometimes I can already manage this and can stay shopping for over an hour, while others times I am panicking before I even get out the car and only stay in the shops for a short time before I have to leave. This makes it difficult for me to set objectives and goals that I can then work up to overcome. I would be greatful of any input with this particular proble.

Sometimes Panic, othertimes no Panic.

I think I know what you mean, and I guess I need to do some more monitoring of the situations that I panic in....I suppose that's why it is so important to keep records all the time. I will work on these and see if I can get to the bottom of what's causing the issue, then I can identify areas for practice. Out of interest, what do you mean when you say look broader. Thanks Andy.

Happy Christmas! (and some Anxiety TV viewing for UK folks)

Excellent, thanks for this notice. I saw a review of it in November as something to be watched and then channel 4 replaced it with Gordon "F-ing" Ramsey. Good to see that it is now back on....and thanks for pointing it out, I would have been really annoyed it I had missed it. Oh yes and have a great Christmas too! :)

Trying to find a discussion

I found an interesting discussion the other day about a lady who was on session three and who had not really being doing her homework but after a particular bad panic she decided to sit down and jot down all here anxious thoughts. I really want to find this discussion again - but cant find it for the life of me. Can anyone help. (I have searched for it, and looked in my browser history!) Thanks Andy. :)

Yes, there IS a cure.

Thats excellent news, well done. I have just started the programme and you message as given me great hope and encouragement, so thank you for posting your story. I do have one question if you would be happy to answer and that is how did you record your thoughts. I have struggled to do this todate and listen to them and acknowledge but I do not log them and I am not sure whether that is just lack of disipline on my part or whether I just need to find what works for me. Would be interested in your input. And once again congratulations! Andy :)

12 Week graph.

I have been doing one particular week for a couple of weeks now as I dont feel that I have quite mastered it and I want to get a little better at it before I move onto the next week. However I have been using the weekly diary. I was just wondering what will happen as now my diary will go beyond the 12 weeks and the symptons graph only goes up to 12 weeks? Thanks Andy.

Ok another post! Heart rate checking

Yes I did exactly the same. I used to check my pulse regularly feeling my neck. I have however managed to stop this and no longer feel the urge. For me it was just a case of seeing that it was of no benefit to me and making a conscious decision to stop. It was hard at the start - but if you can't completely stop at the start, try to reduce the number of times you check you will eventually find as I have that you no longer think about it. I hope this is of some help.:)

Thought I was winning...

I just wanted to add to this too. I would not get too down about it, we all have good days and bad days and as Claire Weeks says...its good to get the old skeleton out of the cupboard from time to time and take a good look at her. She scares us less and less. :)

Struggling with counter acting my anxious thoughts!

I am struggling with challenging my anxious thoughts. Whenever I am particular anxious or having a panic attack I keep having that thought that something bad is going to happen - and for me that is having a heart attack (I have chest pains amongst my symptoms). I do try and use the techniques in the programme but am still finding it difficult. I feel this programme is definitely the way to beat this, so I would just like to know whether anybody has any pointers to help me move in the right direction.
