I started with Chantix,  then I found this.. and another support site.  I read most of "Allen Carr's Easy Way To Quit Smoking"
I used Rewards... I dedicated my "quit" to my mother in law.. who was diagnosed with lung cancer.. on the day I started the Chantix.  She is now in remission.   I read, I bought mints, water, I tried to prepare...

By day 5 on the Chantix the smokes tasted sooo awful day 6 i smoked 3 and I quit smoking on day 7 ( one day early) as they tasted so NASTY ( kind of aversion herapy)

I also remind myslef ..... HOW awful the first month was.. how awful the craves right before I hit some "milestones" and I ask myself... Do you want to go through that again... so NOPE ( not one puff ever) HAS to be imprinted on my brain....

because i sure as HE _________ do not want to repeat that... no matte how much I may want a smoke. ....  I  don't want those first 30 days again.

My method was nicotine replacement patches as like ML I truly know that I could not have done CT-however, I started my quit journey prior to the patches by reducing the number of cigarettes from 30 to 8 then 5. I do beleive instilling this discipline really did help and when i eventually picked my total quit day I have never looked back.
I did the programme more or less properly, starting with a 21mg, then a 14mg then a 7mg, however, I didnt feel the 7 were really relevant and ended them early.
I was up for trying the Champix/Chantix too if the NRT hadnt worked. I believe strongly its whatever works for the individual, and if it takes us to the same goal then thats the main thing.

I used Chantix as I was a long time smoker and knew if I tried cold turkey, I would never make it.  Actually, I think the Chantix gave me that crutch I needed to quit.  Magic bullet and all that - which it was for me.  I didn't complete the full course but it worked - - - - so far.  It did give me time to learn coping methods so that when the craves came, I was prepared, more or less.  But I'm still standing and watching my days creep up which is another boost to keeping quit.

My method of choice was cold turkey. I wanted to get the nicotine out of my system as soon as I could so I could get past the physical detox and move on to the bigger more challenging part, the mental aspect. I just wanted to get it over with ASAP and that is what worked best for me.
