Hey there!

Above these messages you'll find a "personal profile" and "support group options" button..  There you can add information that will be included on your posts!  Like your quit meter, etc.

I took a drive from OK down to San Antonio soon after my quit...  get yourself a crave basket for the road which includes some baby carrots, celery, fruits and maybe some nuts... except for pistachios right now!!!    I heard they had a major recall on them yesterday!!!

You'll do fine on the trip..  just keep telling yourself N. O. P. E.!!!  Not One Puff Ever!!!  You may also try a straw between the fingers to occupy your fingers and even take a deep breath of "clean" air through the straw!  It'll help!!!

Thank you y'all!  Your support is wonderful.  I decided to give the almost full pack of cigs to another person at my work so I don't have those there to tempt me.  Drinking water is going to be a hard thing for me since I normally stick with Tea or Dr. Pepper, but I must do that.  I am reading and re-reading the "my program" section.  My only concern is my drive easter weekend from TX to MO to OK and back home to TX.  This is going to be a BIG deal trying to not smoke with this long drive, but I know I can do it (just keep some good beef jerkey to chew on).  I'm still trying to find out how to add the quit meter, I know I saved it onto my computer. I will get it, first I want to read the information under "my program" mainly before lunch time.  I did learn that as long as I bring my lunch to work I can go till 5 with out any problems.

Hey Lori - welcome.  This quitting thing is very doable, so like the others said, read, post lots and let us help you get this done!  And yes, get rid of the extra cigs.  You don't need temptation looking you in the eye this early in your quit.  Maybe give them to a coworker who smokes - that way it would make them aware that you're quitting and maybe encourage them to do the same.  Stay close, and be sure to holler for help if you feel you're going to cave - I know that saved my quit a couple of times.  People will respond as quick as they can to help you work through it.  Best wishes!

Lori, welcome to the SSC!  Yeah, I saw on the news this morning about the new ciggie tax effective today.  If not for the the million other reasons to quit, today nobody cannot afford this habit anymore!  So here's what you should do.  Go through "my program" so you are 110% prepared for this quit.  Preparation is key to success!  Add your quit meter to your posts from "my profile" so you can track your success.  Both my program and my profile are at the top of this screen.  Make the program work for you!  And this quit is all about YOU!  So be sure to reward yourself with each passed craving (small reward), each smoke free day (medium rewards), and each smoke free week (larger reward).  Read, read, and read some more.  Use the search feature here to find prior posts on topics that affect you.   Drink lots of iced water to flush the toxins out of your body.  Post as often as you need, as somebody will always be here.  We're all rooting for your success!!!!

Hi and welcome Lori

Lots of good help here.....Read through "My Program" to get yourself prepared........Down load your Quit-Meter from  "Tools and Resources" and get it going then go to "My Profile" and have it show on your posts.  It helps to see how you are doing.

First week is called Hell Week.......first 3-4 days are tough.....you need to really treat yourself good, I slept a lot.  Drink lots of fluids to help, Ice water, Gatorade, Juices.
After that the drug is out of your system and it's easier to manage the addict inside you......just saying NO when he/she craves.  It's a mental battle and you have to be strong and really want it.
You can do this......we can help

Hi, Lori, and welcome!
This site is the place to be... the tools and resources are amazing.
I suspect you're right about a lot of people quitting today -- I heard on the news this morning that in the U.S., the cig tax just went to $1.01!  That's on top of state and local taxes, so smoking seems to be becoming a moral issue on top of everything else, huh?  I mean, is it really okay to spend so MUCH on something that is so bad??

Keep in touch and let us all know how it's going for you -- we're glad you're here!

Good Morning Y'all!  Today is my day to finally stop smoking. No morning cig on the drive to work so I am going good so far, just got to get through the breaks.  I have my (ex)roommate moved out of my house with her 3 kids and my son is gone till easter weekend.  So today seems like a good day.  Well and the prices of those nasty habit is getting a little outragous.  Now what to do with this pack of cigs I have in my purse?   I guess tear them up and do a dance on them. HaHa

Anyways, I was looking around for help on quitting, I saw this page, and thought how amazing this is.  I hope this will help me more then the other methods I have tried.  I see that many people are stopping today because of the increase of tax in addition to the lack of money with the economy.  The best wishes and a huge hug to those of y'all just starting.
