Believe it MissAlison, you CAN do this!! I wish you all the best on this charmed third quit. We gain skill with each attempt and this could be the one you make stick...the point where your life takes a turn for the best and just keeps going. Hey Allison! You can look at those quits, not in the context that you failed, but that you had a total of eighteen months free of the drug that kills! So welcome back and this time do it for good! How? Committ yourself to your quit this time. You are an addict, so treat yourself as such. It means you have to tell yourself that you cannot put another smoke to your lips, ever. Not one puff ever! (NOPE) Then close the door on it! Done! No looking back! Can you do that? If you can do that, it is a gigantic step forward on your way to being free! :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 3/5/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 128 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 3,200 Amount Saved: $1,350.40 Life Gained: Days: 15 Hrs: 16 Mins: 40 Seconds: 4

Allison First try 8 months, second attempt a year and so the second quit half again as long as the first quit. I agree with you that 8 months is a lot of time spent as a non smoker certainly the craving are gone by then. Think back, at each relapse what triggered you to smoke? Yes you are plenty capable of quitting as you have proved it twice. I think we all have to force ourselves out of the habit of thinking about smoking. Yes, even at 8 months and a year and for as long as it takes. Dont think of smoking as an object that will help improve a situation for you, or one that gives you pleasure. In fact train yourself to NOT think about smoking period. For most smokers it is difficult to quit, there is pain in quitting and pleasure with our milestones. Focus in on the pleasure part of what will be and avoid those smokes. You said yourself you dont like them so again find the triggers you had at 8 months and a year and nail them and just dont smoke period. It is not so fun quitting so quit now so we can have some fun latter on. Good luck, you can stick to it! Allison, welcome. There are many of us who lost our quits over and over. But what we did not loose was the desire to be smoke free. I look at the craves now of little reminders that I am addict and all it takes is one puff to ruin everything. So for me today is NOPE - NOT ONE PUFF EVER!!! There is a lot of support here. You will learn to how not to smoke and how to stay smoke free doing it a day at a time. I am no longer setting goals, ie 30 days, 60days, ............ My only goal today is to stay smoke free until I go to bed and then I will deal with tomorrow when it comes. You have done this before, now you will do it for real. I don't know. I feel like I stayed quit enough both times to be well past the actual nicotine cravings - I know I can do that part, if I actually really get started and stop doing this "tomorrow, I'll quit tomorrow" business.

Hello MissAlison Sure it'll stick a lot of people take as many as 7 times before it sticks. This is the toughest addiction in the world but you have done it twice. You say that you quit cold turkey and it worked (temporarily ?? ).Well how about we try some NRT this time it might be what you need to get you on the smoke free side permanetly ???
