I did it! Two weeks now! Thank you to all who sent me support and advice. As some of you have warned me, it has been hard to break the drinking-smoking connection, but I'm getting a lot of support from my non-smoking buddies, and my smoking buddies have been very gracious to sneak their smokes when we're out drinking. Also, as soon as I feel a craving for a cigarette, I get something non-alcoholic to drink and I find something else to do at the club, like dance or talk to someone or get a snack. It's working. Also, I was bedridden-sick for four days, so that helped too. Blessing in disguise. Otherwise, I've been pampering myself with daily rewards that keep me from feeling like I'm depriving myself. And I love smelling my shampoo all day. It smells like birthday cake. My 30th birthday party was a blast - by far the best party I've ever had - full of all kinds of wonderful surprises from my friends. But for me, quitting smoking is so much more important than the party or the 30-year milestone. I'm glad I'm doing it. Thank you!!!! The big 30 was what motivated me as well. Stick with it and I guarantee you will be happy that you did. The benefits are endless. how did the party go A1? How is your first day smoke free going? You have made a great decision to quit while you are young. Addiction is a progressive disease. it only gets worse as we get older, so stopping it now is GREAT. Let us know how you are doing. new me My Milage: My Quit Date: 5/26/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 29 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 696 Amount Saved: $145.00 Life Gained: Days: 4 Hrs: 1 Mins: 25 Seconds: 39

Alice, How are you doing today? What a great birthday present, I gave the same to myself (on my 40th though). I commend you for quitting at your age, my doc told me that if you quit befor you're 35 years down the road you will have the same cancer risk as a non-smoker. I hope you find this site helpful, just type a post and someone will answer usually within minutes (any time, day or night). There's a lot to be learned from some of the seasoned quitters still hanging around here. Best of luck to you and keep us posted.
