Hi Alice, You've got a great attitude and a great reason for quitting. Those who quit before turning 35 will have the same life expectancy of a non-smoker! I didn't read all the other responses but do take the time to complete the quit program - it's really eye opening. The freedom on the other side is spectacular and you'll get here just one day and one cigarette at a time. Happy Birthday Alice! Welcome to your 30's. It was a rough transition for me at first, but given that you are starting a new life with a new you, your 30's will be even better! I have to say, having a party with all of your smoking friends is a very brave thing to do on your 30th birthday. If you want to quit, REALLY want to quit, then it can be done, but please, take some precautions. The first thing is that drinking lowers our inhibitions and we're MUCH more likely to smoke when we drink too much because smoking and drinking went hand in hand for so long and we don't think clearly when we're drunk. I'm not saying don't drink, I'm just saying, keep that in mind tonight if you're going to try to stay smoke free during your party. Drinking was a trigger that took me a long time to get over and get to the point where I didn't crave at all while doing it. Now, I can and I don't even THINK about smoking, even though virtually everybody I hang out with smokes. But it did take me a while to get there. So, just prepare yourself for some pretty intense cravings tonight. They might not happen, but they could, and it's better to be prepared and have no cravings than not be prepared and then cave because you're not mentally ready. It sounds like you're pretty pumped about this decision you've made, and that's a GREAT start to a healthy, new smoke free you! Keep that energy going because that desire that you have to quit will make it SO much easier for you to quit smoking. Welcome to the SSC and congrats on making the best decision of your life! Oh, and happy birthday! Have fun tonight! Crave the Quit! I smoked mischievously when I was 14 - one here and there when I could sneak it. Then nothing for three years. I started smoking daily during my freshman year of college. And I've smoked well under one pack of cigarettes a day since then. But when I started smoking in college, I said, "I'll never smoke after I'm thirty. That's so trashy." I was a 17-year-old sorority girl in Alabama - image was everything and 30 was far away. I've been 30 for 2 hours now. After a month of intensive self-examination, I'm sitting outside in the chilly air with my last pack of cigarettes. I want to smoke until I'm satisfied, and then have one more last cigarette. Then I'm going to bed. In the morning, I will crush the rest of the pack in the trash with my best friend as my witness. Then I have a play date with my favorite baby in the world before my big birthday bash. I've asked my smoking friends to leave my party for the smoke breaks as if they were teenagers sneaking away from their mother for a cigarette. I don't even want to know they are gone. I'm done with this part of my life. I am making room for new things. Any support would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! Alice
