Thanks again, I am glad to be stuck with such a great group of people. I signed up for the depression site and started working some of the tools there. Hey Kelly - I take effexor as well - No real side effects but I can tell when I don't take it because I start having a lot of anxiety. There are other meds they can try, and for that dr to tell you no med would work and try counseling was very irresponsible of her. One other thing as I see you are in your mid 30's - go talk to your OB dr as well - you might be experiencing some of the first perimenopausal signs too - quitting smoking really messes witth your hormones so you might be experiencing a hormonal difference... i went into menopause (prematurly) when i quit, and the hormonal therapy has been so unbelievably GOOD! I am human again! Anyhow, please don't forget to breath, an we're all here for you. Nothing lasts forever! Kelly - you're stuck with me whether you like it or not! ;) I don't mean to be a drug pusher - but medication these days can be really helpful and have little if any side effects. If you don't want medication, psychotherapy is another great option. Do whatever is right for you. Just don't give up. And of course, just don't smoke! Sending good thoughts your way! Your right, I just get really nervous about meds, I am sensitive to them and never know if it will help or not. You have been so helpful changing, please don't lose sight of me, I really need you around. AND all of you. Kelly, One more thing to keep in mind. As I'm sure you know, when you start a new med, your body goes through an adjustment process. As a result, some people experience side effects (e.g. fatigue, stomach upset, dizziness, etc) for a few days. But they go away after 3-4 days. thanks for the input. Everytime I have tried any of them, they make me feel feverish, like I am on fire, and give me excessive yawning. (that is funny), but its true. It is to the point that I have to lay around. I hope there is something out there that works. I know most of them say a side effect is "flushing", but that is not how I see it. It must be the seratonin reaching your system or something. I am glad you are all here for me. Talk therapy is the best thing for me, always has, mind over matter seems to work well. Thanks all. My daughter has never taken meds for any length of time because she didn't like the way they made her feel. That's really all I know about it. Terry Glad you are getting so many good responses. I took Effexor (if that's what you're talking about) for about 6 months a few years ago. It made me feel like I had arthritis. I had constant joint pain. I had to stop taking it. Kelly, My two cents is to connect with a Psychiatrist for medications AND a therapist for supportive psychotherapy. To add another cent (that makes it three cents from me ;p) - try not to get too frustrated or scared with the medications. Effexor worked well for me for a while, and when it no longer work I tapered off it and onto Cymbalta, which I stayed on for about a year. Bottom line is that your symptoms CAN BE treated and you CAN feel better. You're not alone and many many of us can relate to your struggle.
