Thank you all for celebrating with me   I do have a wonderful holiday to Mauritius just around the corner, so although that was an 'unplanned' reward, I'll apply it appropriately - smoke free of course!

As for what tools and resources helped me in this quit - I've never done well with people telling me what to do, so the idea of getting 'help' from an organised group or NHS didn't even get a look in.  Instead this forum was the best thing that happened to me.  I replaced my after dinner smoke with an after dinner post / read / rant(!) and before I knew it that first week had gone.  More of the same and by six months I knew I'd turned a corner.  The ability to come and go as I need(ed) to, and always know there is support, tough love and shared experience a few keystrokes away has made every difference in the world.  And the old diamond 'take what you need and leave the rest' still shines after all these days.  It's also been very eye-opening to be able to give advice to others when I see a situation that I've managed to get through unscathed.  That is true affirmation of success.

So new quitters, stick around!  Like everything worth having (think childbirth, marriage, straight teeth, muscles, a new pet, bikini wax ) there is pain of some sort involved before we can reach that magic place.  And all those things require maintenance as does a quit.  One day at a time, one unsmoked cigarette at a time and you will get there.

x T

PS Sparky its particularly good to 'see' you, sending you virtual hugs x
