Rusty's right Kate, I started walking about 9 months ago and was walking 3.5 to 4 miles a day, 5-6 days a week when I quit. a few days after I quit I started running instead of walking. I haven't lost anything yet, though to be honest I have been eating more, though not enough to justify no weight loss. When you quit your body absorbs more nutrition from the food so that could account for you not losing any weight. I've heard this evens out some time after the first few weeks, but I'm not there yet. So don't worry about it, Congrats on not gaining any weight, thats a BIG accomplishment. hi kate, honey you must be bone thin at that height and weight dont worry about it, let me do the worrying for both of us. I am 5' 9" and weigh 164 so there. I was 168 when I quit smoking, I was exercising everyday, walking and nothing was happening. On my 28th day of being quit I started to loose weight so I think it takes a month or so to get you stable, at least it seems like that for me. Also I was eating healthy but I was eating alot of nuts and that can really pack it on. Today is 30 days for me being quit and I am so proud of this and I am looseing weight it just doesn't get any better then this, well maybe if I went a day without thinking about cigs that would be the best lolol. keep up the great work on your quit. Hey Kate don't starve yourself, you must look like a model as it is, at that height and weight. I wouldn't worry if I were you, concentrate on your quit and when you feel really secure then you work on the weight. One thing at a time and one day at a time :)Marie My Milage: My Quit Date: 6/13/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 96 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 1,449 Amount Saved: $384 Life Gained: Days: 12 Hrs: 17 Mins: 54 Seconds: 46

well,i didn't get any weight-at least so far- and i hope i won't too. However,i was planning to lose a couple of kgs..(well,i'm 5.9 and 132lbs) i would like to lose 4-5lbs more. I work out 2-3 sometimes 4 times a week and i am always careful with what i eat! But i can't lose nothing. For the last 2 weeks i haven't lost 100grs(metric here) does quit smoking block your metabolism? what should i do? i'm getting nervous about it... I'm with crush---I have been exercising more than ever, but not losing. Do you suppose it has something to do with these chocolate chip cookies I'm eating to top off my low cal cereal for breakfast? Hi, Kate. It's a rough generalization, but from what I've seen here, and experienced myself, many people gain through the first 6 months no matter how they diet or exercise. Then, if they stick with the dieting and exercise, they start to loose. Smoking increases your metabolism. When you quit, I think your metabolism "undershoots", or goes below what would be normal for you if you had never smoked, and takes about 6 months to settle out. Again, that's just a guess and I'm not a doctor. Just my observations. Keep up the good quit, Kate. You're doing fine. ;) Shevie My Milage: My Quit Date: 5/23/2005 Smoke-Free Days: 482 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 9,649 Amount Saved: $1831.6 Life Gained: Days: 89 Hrs: 22 Mins: 48 Seconds: 32

No need to be nervous, Kate. Sometimes it just takes a while to lose. When I quit, I started walking a couple of miles every day. It took me several months to see any movement on the scales. Just be patient -- one battle at a time.
