I'm having a bad day

crazy My heart goes out to you on this one. Yes indeed being cigarette free also leaves a bit of our emotional life hanging out in the breeze. But don't worry you will get your toughness back. Its just that we relied on the cigarettes to cool those emotional peaks out. But the truth is that we have always been capeable of doing that for ourselves, we just bought into the lie that cigarettes where a form of therapy. Its like this...Something happens to upset us and we smoke a cigarette. We feel better. The connection has been made. Now we think it is the cigarette that made us feel better. But it wasn't the cigarette. We just used the cigarette as a reward to compensate for the sadness of being upset. The cigarette didn't change anything, we rewarded ourselves by smoking a cigarette and the act of seeking comfort (rewarding ourselves) was what soothed the pain...That is why we must be good to ourselves as we traverse the pit falls of curing the addiction... Listen if this fellow is running a testosterone trip on you, don't worry, its probably because somewhere he feels a sense of inadequacy and a need to show dominance...I find that most people who need to dominate, only need to do so because they feel unimportant most of the time. I am sorry that he made you feel badly, but if anyone on your team has half a brain they can see that as well...And if they don't have half a brain, who cares anyway...Thats just my feeling on it all...I hope that you are better now and stick close to your quit...It is the most important thing that you can do for yourself...And you are all that matters when it comes to quitting... nonic My Milage: My Quit Date: 12/25/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 347 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 10,410 Amount Saved: $3,643.50 Life Gained: Days: 63 Hrs: 9 Mins: 31 Seconds: 36

    Cigarettes Not Smoked

Thanks everyone!!! I made it through without smoking. I was told he's suppose to apologize. Not that it fixes anything. Personally I'd rather he stays away from me. I needed to vent and I needed to post. All of you helped me get through the day at work yesterday and the humor put me in a better mood. Today is much better and so glad it's Friday. I'm taking a me weekend and doing absolutely nothing but watch movies and get much needed rest. That's my reward for making it past a test that before would've been an excuse to ruin my quit. Not this time. I'm here to stay!! Thank you so much and have a great smoke free weekend!!! Kayla, I cried all the time when I quit, you get a non-smoking pass, feel free to wave that at whomever :D Give yourself a break, this is a tough thing you are doing. I love your excellent attitude - keep it up, it will carry you all the way. Kayla, let it all out, go to the washroom if you're still at work and cry, cry, cry! Deep breaths help too! Or write down in a journal what you think of his sorry ash. The release will feel good. Yah, we used to smoke those feelings away before, so thats why it feels like you're more sensitive. But there still is that tough part of you that's not gonna let some chauvanist get you down! He has no power over you, unless you let him! You go girl! Don't let him get ya down! :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 3/5/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 276 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 6,900 Amount Saved: $2,911.80 Life Gained: Days: 33 Hrs: 18 Mins: 16 Seconds: 28

Good for you Cuban! Have a good cry - it is way better, and healthier, than smoking. I hate when people embarrass me, especially in front of other people. But what the truth is, they really make themselves look foolish. Blow it off, you are better than that! You are a NON SMOKER!!! You are doing great!!! What a blessing it is to be able to cry and let it out. It is cleansing the soul. We all go though emotional break downs during our quits, but we get though them and you will too. I agree go get yourself something nice, you have earned it. Crazycuban, Cry, let it out, it's all part of the quit process. This is an unfortunate situation but it's a great way to learn how to cope with unpleasant people and the feelings that they can ignite without turning to a cigarette. You may find it helpful to write a letter to him about how he made you feel. You don't have to send it, often times just writing it can be therapeutic. And remember to reward yourself when you get home tonight for making it through a bad day smoke-free. Brenna, Bilingual Support Specialist
