Welcome to hell week, siomarie! :) It passes, trust me, it passes. Everyone is different, but it sounds like your first day may be the worst one. My first day was a constant "heading out to smoke" fight. I was actually a bit sore that evening like I'd spent the day doing yard work, or something else physical. The second was all the junkie thoughts; multiple ones at once going on all day. I called them "voices in my head" (LOL). Mostly they were annoying, but some were rather comical. The third day I blew up all over the Demon Busters thread. I was so mad at cigarettes and what I was going through that I went to the store, bought a pack, came back to work and shredded them. That did wonders for my attitude. Calmed me right down. If you need to vent, cry, scream, or blow up come here and do it. The people around you don't deserve it and we don't mind. :p Hang in there, siomarie. You've started a grand journey. We'll be pleased if you let us help you along on it. You can get through it - you will be suffering withdrawal symptoms now but they will pass. Be strong - there are lots of tactics to cope on this site - pick one that suits you. We all struggled through those first few weeks - but be positive and you WILL SUCCEED. You can give up and have a smoke but approximately 20 seconds after smoking you will feel very bad and all the anguish will have been wasted. You are strong and you can give up - don't be weak - having a smoke puts your life back in the control of nicotine ! I'm sure you will succeed !! It's a battle all right and it's tough the first week.....we all understand. Remember that these cravings....they are the beast screaming for his fix.....and they mean that YOU are in control. The only way to win this is to hang on. Do NOT be fooled that giving in for a drag or just one will help things....it will merely give the monster a fix and make him scream louder for another. get more gum....get hard candies....get straws...sour lemon drops...lots of bottles of icey cold water.....get ones with pop up caps...they give your hands something to do...and you can pump the swallows of water to yourself, while you mess with the top. Be sure to try to eat a balanced diet....have some protein snacks to help keep the blood sugars up....take time to yourself to breath and try to relax....take more time for a walk or to exercise a bit....be GOOD to yourself.....have small rewards of some sort a couple of times a day....and plan a bigger one for like the end of day three and then the end of day six. Looking forward to a reward will help you stay determined and focused on moving ahead. Don't let yourself just sit and "think" on the urges to smoke. Kick nic's butt....it WILL get easier in a few days.
