Smoking?

16 years ago 0 138 logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo 0
Extremely interesting topic. One lady recently told me that when she tries to stop smoking, her panic increases. Personally I think it is just another excuse that anyone who can't quit rationalizes to themselves. I've struggled with smoking and thought maybe it amplified the effect of antidepressants but now I also have wellbutrin which is also a quit smoking aid. Now I believe I just smoke when I feel poorly about myself. If I felt good about myself I'd be exercising and playing music with my spare time, not oversleeping and being sedentary.

I've read that smoking increases and not decreases stress. Cigarettes give adrenaline and logically it increases anxiety. I agree because when I smoke, I feel it and it is one of the reasons for me not to smoke.

Tallglassofwater, It has been shown that smoking temporarily decreases anxiety but in the long run heightens your anxiety levels due to constant intervals of nicotine withdrawal. If you'd like to consider quitting, we have a sister site that will be of great help to you: www.stopsmokingcenter.net Danielle ___________________ The PC Support Team

I wish I could help but I must admit I quit smoking a year ago. All I remember is I often smoked when I was anxious. Then again not sure the smoking really helped me lol. Anyway, I am sure others will be by with better info for you! -Diva

Hi all, I've noticed that since I have been on Prozac/Fluoxetine, I have been smoking a lot more. I was just wondering if anyone else has encountered this side effect due to medications. I'm concerned that if it's not the medication, it is just a sign of a constantly high anxiety level and smoking is an attempt to release that. If anyone has any personal experience with this I'd be grateful to hear it. Cheers, Tallglassofwater
