Hi Cowgirl ... I was finally able to quit smoking this summer by using an e-cig which provides nicotine through inhaled vapors without any of the additives or chemicals that analog cigarettes have.  I was able to gradually step down the nicotine levels to 0.  So now when I crave a cigarette and cave in... I'm just "smoking" the vapor.  It feels very much like inhaling a real cigarette.  There is some controversy over their use.  However, I was convinced to try it by my dentist who was lecturing me about the need to quit smoking.  And my MD now recommends them to her other patients who are smokers.  If you google e-cig forum you can get a lot of good information.  I tried patches, pills, gum, etc.... did not really give the Evolution Health Stop Smoking site much of a chance, but I certainly would recommend checking it out especially for the education on the effects of smoking and support for quitting.

Hi Cowgirl,

Most people don't experience side effects that are much different from smoking. The Nicotine Replacement Therapies are just nicotine and your body reacts pretty routinely to that. If you do experience an undesirable side effect, there are ways to easily combat that with the help from your pharmacist or doctor.

I understand your desire to hear from someone who has a similar 'fear', however, we are all so different, I'm not sure that would be 'accurate' evidence. I encourage you to do what you think is best for you. And there is a great support group, full of advice and support, on the smoking cessation site.

Thank you for sharing that with me......I was worried about feeling so exhausted like I have.  I am also trying to quit smoking and am going to try the patch and I am panicy about the side effects I read on the box.....I really want to quit..but I can't do cold turkey.  Anyone else phobic of side effects or have ever tried the patch to quit smoking?

Hi Cowgirlndlace,

Sorry I didn't say hi sooner. Welcome to the site!

To answer your question based on my experience. Yep, I experienced exhaustion after exposure or after doing a lot of the program or just in general working through the program I was really tired a lot and could feel the mental fatigue. I took breaks and sometimes days and weeks between working on anything and then worked on myself all day and the next day I'd be tired again. Rest when you feel tired. That is part of the program is taking care of yourself. Rest is important.

Hi Cowgirl,

I don't know how to do icons, I wanted a row of stars because what you did - going to the mall and shopping and Santa - wow ! That's amazing. I'm amazed, malls make me crazy, I lose my sense of direction! Your family must have been very happy that you joined them. Congrats.  I'm really impressed (can you tell!!!!!!!!!!!)

Hi Cowgirlndlace:  congratulations!  Sounds like a lovely time. Do give yourself a reward, big or small, for your successful outing.  Remember how nice that outing felt and build on it.  You can do it again.  Slowly your confidence will build from outings.  Don't worry if they don't all go well, that's o.k.  Sometimes we take a step back, but doesn't mean it's a failure.  It's a success because you are out and trying.  Keep the faith.

Well, I haven't posted in a few day and I am updating today!  Although, I didn't make the walk down to the end of my street......I did go to the mall 2 times this weekend in the crowded, warm, and very confining MALL!!  I stood in line with my daughter and grandbabies to see Santa....and went from store to store and actually had a great time!!  I even wandered away on my own to stores I wanted to go into.....while my daughter and grandbabies waited outside for me......but I  had a blast!@  I even bought a new outfit!!

Welcome Cowgirlndlace,
If you believe, you will get better...this program really works....and it sounds like your attitude is great, you will improve...I have improved so much in the few months I've been here...and have met so many wonderful people who REALLY know what its like to suffer with anxiety and panic...and that makes all the difference.. i know how hard it is with the ones you love that just don't understand what its like, no matter how supportive they are.
Your post has also encouraged me....I have just been put off my job for medical leave, and that depresses me...but maybe its for the best! Who knows what the future holds. See, youve already helped someone else...without even trying...isnt that wonderful? I think so...good luck with your walk down the street...you can do it!! Before this program I couldn't take an elevator, see a doctor, drive over bridges, sit in  hair salon, and so many more...now I do all of them, and all without panic!! You will too!
Here for you,
Juanita
