The Drive: Traumatic

Hi Spartan,
I also want to say - way to go!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! that's so great.
love the affirmations. bet they work for alot of things with a little twist. self talk is what makes great athletes and business people. if it works for them, it works for us.
Great going.  Hope you had a great celebration.  I'll bet your hubbie was very proud of you. Great way to greet him being all happy,

Set backs and thinking of being completely "cured"

anxiety was so much a part of my identity.  I thought I'd kick and scream while it was leaving.  Now that the underlying anxiety is mostly gone, depends on the day, I sometimes think I want it back and of course I think back to some awful times to snap me out of it.  I just have to fill that emppty space with all the things I've been missing out on. Or enjoying the things I am already doing but with a feeling of peace. I still like my cacoon when I come home from work, so I'm not going to go looking for stuff to create anxiety.
What I need to master is not letting an anxeity attack turn into a panic attack.  I don't remember to stop before it escalates to do breathing exercises.  I just thought of posting a big note on our window at work.  When my husband would  take abuse from clients and then be depressed and fuming, I had him put up a note to say to the person - I will not allow you to speak to me like that.  If you don't stop I will hang up.  And he has hung up on quite a few !  Now he's removed himself from the attack and can say t o the person, you sound very angry with me, or upset with  (fill in the situation). And brings the person down to a calmer note, not all, still a few he hangs up on and then we fire them.  We laugh, clients always think they do the firing, they are stunned when we tell them thay are fired, there is just so much stress in our lives already, don't need to be treated like they must speak to their child.  So, went off track, I'll hang a super large note in marker so I can see it anywhere in the room. I might have to paste a sign to my farhead !

I am so glad I found this site, I hope it will help!

While you take that walk, look around at the scenery, its beauty, the clouds if there are any, feel the weather on your skin, it's real air, fresh air. Think good thoughts, continually repeat a mantra and when your mind goes back to it, when you realize it, just return back to the mantra.
And since you don't know where to start  - go to lesson 1 and follow it, I have the sheets at my office and at home (you'll understand when you read about the lesson). Everyone does it at their own pace, I do one a week, and practice the lesson thru the week.
Read the posts, not just the current ones, go back and see what strikes your fancy.  And keep posting.
Let us know of your success with your walk.  I have faith that you will enjoy yourself and jump for joy when you return home.  And if it goes a differnt way, that's okay, too. Opeing the door and looking around is just as special.

Mmmmmmmmm, let´s get cookin´ !

I used to be the cook at a budhist monestary in upstate NY.The teacher would do his teachings and initiations on reaching enlightenment above the kitchen and the smells would permeate the air and everyone just wanted to get the lesson overwith so they could eat.  He had to do a lesson about pleasures getting the better of us.  I told them I would write a cookbook and name it - The Way To Enlightenment is Thru the Buddha's Belly.  Then 9/11 happened and my world changed.

So, after that introduction, I would love to hear about your favorite recipe(s). I'm in need of some excellent tofu recipes now that I no longer desire flesh.  Weaned myself down and now need to go cold turkey!  I made one the other night that turned out fantastic, but I don't want to get sick of the same flavors. Doesn't have to be American, I love it all, except very spicy.  There are so many different spices, when I walk down the isle in the natural grocer and smell the cardimon blending with the others, it is heaven on earth!
And your favorite bread recipes - love the sunflower seed one.
Okay, let's have some fun.  We're way to serious on the other posts!!!

A request to read my blog

How do I set up a blog?  Is it just for us or can the general public read my journal?

I can't sleep yet (which is another story - I don't like not having control, so I wait until I can't keep my eyes open anymore),

I have repetitive thoughts in my head and I thought I'd like a place to go to to write to take my mind off it. That's why thre are so many posts in the evening from me.  I love my quiet time here. There are many postings to read to bring me up to speed

What is this phenomenon -exp - a renter called and left a mssg in a condescending tone.  I'm glad it was a mssg because I would have attacked back.  So now, I practiced what I will say back to her, so far so good. But then I continually repeat it in my head over and over and continually hear her tone of voice.  It started to set off an anxiety attack, I have atleast minimized it to a 3-4, which is good for me.  But why do I do that ? IS it part of OCD, fear, please explain - if I can first understand it intellectually, I can then internalize it and figure out how to get out of it. Or you can tell me how to get out of it.  Self talk doesn't seem to work. I used to write the same affirmation line after line pages after pages and I used to keep a notebook, but I can't seem to sit still except on the computer. It happens alot.  There were times because it would upset me so much that I would run to my office at all hours just to settle my mind.with a solution. It's too late to leave a mssg on her phone and I wouldn't want to get into an arguement anyway.

Thanks,

Planning for the Return of Anxiety 1

Thank you, Red and Ashley.  I'm still getting used to everything on the site. Didn't realize there was a place for that.

A possible misinterpretation of panic attacks

If it's early AM upon or close to rising - it could be blood pressure issues.Have you had your heart checked. There are certain conditions that mimick anxiety, atrial valve prolapse, etc.  Not to scare you, but it is so important !  For years and years everyone got tired of my mother's anxiety attacks - only to find out she had a heart conditon. (I can't tell you of the sadness in my heart for my being part of that) So important to get a thorough check up, and thorough, meaning not the "say ah' and cough type but the more intrusive tests so if anything is noticed, you can be effered to a specialist.
Might want to buy an inexpensive blood pressure monitor - very easy to use. And has memory.
Hypoglycemis is another. Many people don't recognize hypoglycemia - Check the foods you are eating before bed.
Are you awakening to an alarm clock - what type of sound?   Are you sensitive to the sound - does it startle you? could be
interfering with REM cycle.  Just some more to think about (coming from a former nurse).

Holiday pressure

An angel came into my life.  She's very active in the community for years.  I mentioned her before. She told me of a mother with two very young children that escaped an abusive husband. She stayed at the home for women in that situation and they helped her get back on her feet. No money, very low income job, and just had her hours cut (of all times!).  This angel along with the center her daughter is involved in (she has a disability - 60 IQ) gathered enough people and services to provide clothing, toys, etc for the children and even a full thanksgiving dinner.  When I was told the grandmother who had been helping her, and her money has run out, to take the gifts I got for her grandson to present them as if they were her own.  A grandchild expects gifts from grandma. They are too young to have to experience poverty nor to understand it.
My angel told me of an organization who will be using volunteers to shop, wrap gifts.   And the following week there are three more.  I couldn't have wished for a better Christmas this year.  I'm filled with joy that I can be part of this.
I had no idea all this was around me.  I was too busy being an agoraphobic.  I'm a bit nervous as I mentioned in a different post, but this is too exciting to miss.
Then Christmas Eve and Day and New Year's Eve and Day my husband and I will cook up a special dinner just for the two of us, and relax and enjoy the peace we will share (of course we are always 24/7- in property management you never know what's going to happen).

Holiday pressure

Hi Sunny,
Hope you feel better soon. I feel compassion for you, I know what you're feeling, even though I haven't been sick in 4 years. I guess agoraphobiakeeps me out of arms reach of others.
When you find the answer to your question, let me know, that's a biggie for me!
Regards, Andie
